To make it robotic/automate and mobile is smart, but why make it so complicated with a robotic arm? It does not look reliable in harsh conditions, why not using a simple loading mechanism instead?

Russia should focus on building robot that can counter FPV drone. As Ukraine FPV is like >90% cause of Russian casualties.

@DM55283 Haha, obviously the Russians pulled it off: four washing machines stolen in Ukraine, a robotic arm slapped together with duct tape, and boom , job done. Self-loading mortar with a perfectly simulated human operator. Western media, as usual, are scraping the bottom ๐

I'm not sure that it saves anything compared to an autoloader loading a cannon with a breach.

underwhelming design complexity level, Kalashnikov would be disappointed. If they wanted to go with the arm they could use a single joint and a gantry, or better yet just a gantry actuated autoloader.

Seems overengineered, they could just put a big perpendicular wheel that catches ammunition from a loaded chamber and gently drops it inside the mortar
