Trump is overhauling the United States Forest Service. Dozens of research sites (including 6 in California) are being shut and offices merged. That means less science, fewer people on the ground, slower wildfire response, and worse decisions about how forests are managed. Less science + less planning + less coordination = higher long-term risk and potentially harder-to-manage fires.

I met with Pope Leo XIV and thanked His Holiness for his prayers for peace in Ukraine, his spiritual closeness to our people, and humanitarian aid for Ukrainians. I informed the Pope about the consequences of Russian aggression, its air terror, and the difficult energy situation. We discussed the Peace Formula, the Holy See's role in establishing a just and lasting peace, and expectations for the Global Peace Summit. I thanked the Holy See for its participation in the Summit and highlighted its efforts aimed at bringing peace closer, particularly returning Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
