Ryan Gosling’s work in Blue Valentine doesn’t get talked about enough. It might be a product of the fact Gosling went on an insane run from 2012-2017 & this preceded that run, but I really believe this is one Gosling’s best performances. It’s also a brutally heartbreaking film.

Drive was such a moment. I’ll never forget seeing this in 2011 then listening to Nightcall on repeat for the next year. This also started a really impressive run for Ryan Gosling. Drive felt like the start of a new chapter in Gosling’s career. Everything about this film rules.

Blue Valentine doesn’t get brought up enough as an all-time great Ryan Gosling performance. This film is such a real look into what love is like for normal people & the way a relationship can fall apart over time. Gosling has near-perfect chemistry with Michelle Williams. Everyone should see this film.

Christian Bale won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his work in The Fighter & while I don’t really love this film, I love this performance. In fact, the entire film is worth watching because of multiple performances from a loaded cast. But Bale is truly at his best here.

Jon Favreau’s Chef is a really well-done original film that doesn’t get talked about enough. I consider this a rewatchable comfort film that’s both funny & sad. The cast is also excellent- Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman & RDJ just to name a few. Favreau’s talent is endless.

Ryan Gosling gave one of the best performances of his career this year in Project Hail Mary, but he’s played an astronaut before & arguably even better in Damien Chazelle’s 2018 release First Man about Neil Armstrong. Gosling is commanding & intense. His charisma is largely turned off & it serves the performance. More people should see this film.

The Fall Guy is hilarious & I’m rewatching this film as we speak on a beautiful Sunday morning. Ryan Gosling is great in this movie & I think the story- which shines a light on stunt work- is oddly refreshing. This movie isn’t perfect but it has a lot of heart and soul.
