Past V1, the runway behind you is irrelevant. You fly what you have. The crew made the right call.

Pretty wild! The plane did miss, at least 4, birds who were sitting on the runway to then get struck by a single one, flying straight into the turbine.

I flew for Ryanair. Airline pilots train for this every six months in the simulator. Bird strike at V1, you fly. Stopping is the more dangerous option. Looks like the crew did everything right.

I believe it's industry standard (IATA carriers) to call a "soft V1" (3-5 knots below V1) and the captain (regardless of PF/PM status) removes their hand from the thrust levers as a visual commitment to continue the takeoff

When you're at v1, you're no longer allowed to stop. A pilot had to sort out any issues in the air, and then get permission to land

Ryanair pilots are actually pretty great, considering how many takeoffs and landings they do, experience building is much faster than doing long haul flights.

Hard to believe that a little bird could take out a giant plane.

Wet runway, aircraft well into the landing zone of the opposite runway, they were beyond V1.

Birds literally have the whole sky and somehow still get sucked into jet engines

V1 was almost certainly already behind.

The pilot not flying will announce V1. At that moment, you continue the takeoff, no debate.

I've had a sea eagle go through the right engine on rotation (B737-400) . No engine indications at all, but a very strong smell of roast chicken. In the cruise I went back to look at the engine and the intake lip was dented. But we continued to STN without event.

A bird strike around V1 and they continued the takeoff safely, making and maintaining the risk level still acceptable. Completely standard and well-handled. This level of performance comes from outstanding safety training and strict adherence to procedures. Airline pilots, you rock! ✈️

Pilot should've made an announcement, "Folks, chicken is now on the menu for this evenings flight...We'll ahhhh be making another pass to collect more chickens!"

Bird strike and Vr look to be basically simultaneous (at most, one second apart). Nothing else to do but fly.

That’s the whole point of “V1”, the maths has been done in advance and you know it’s safer to fly than try to stop.
