A Frontier Airlines flight bound for LAX hit a person on the runway during takeoff from Denver International Airport on Friday. The Airbus A321 was taking off from runway 17L when it appeared to strike an individual walking on the runway. The pilot quickly aborted the takeoff. Someone just received an invitation to see the Chief Pilot, and it's definitely not for tea and biscuits. Malaysia Airlines A330 (9M-MTI) narrowly avoided serious nose gear damage before takeoff. On December 18, Malaysia Airlines Airbus A330-300 9M-MTI, operating flight MH71 from Tokyo Narita to Kuala Lumpur, was cleared for immediate takeoff from Runway 34L in heavy rain. During the initial takeoff roll, the aircraft drifted left, and the crew rejected the takeoff at around 30 kt ground speed. .Bob Allen practicing a V1 cut in our Westwind II today. There’s only one 1124 sim in the world - so we do our training in the actual plane! A V1 cut is an engine failure after V1 (takeoff decision speed). It means we’re past the point where a rejected takeoff is safe or possible, therefore we must take-off on the remaining good engine. All pilots practice V1 cuts on large multiengine aircraft, but usually in a simulator. We do it as part of every recurrent Checkride on the big jets, but it’s extra trippy doing it for real! That said, the “failure” is really just one engine being pulled back to idle thrust, so it’s available IF necessary. Notice - it’s barely even an event in the hands of a skilled professional pilot. Rudder is applied to the side of the good engine, directional control is maintained, and the aircraft is rotated into a climb at V2 while the non-flying pilot retracts the gear and the flaps. The “issue” and subsequent troubleshooting/shutdown procedures are delayed until the aircraft is at a safe altitude.

On July 19, 2021, a Cessna 180 was involved in an accident during a takeoff attempt from a rough field near Brenham, Texas. The pilot had previously landed short of the runway due to fuel exhaustion and refueled the aircraft with fuel purchased from a landowner. The pilot then attempted a downhill takeoff from the rough terrain. Witness video showed the airplane bounce multiple times during the ground roll, briefly becoming airborne before settling back onto the field. The airplane then pitched up, struck a barbed wire fence, climbed slightly, and descended while veering left before colliding with terrain. A runway at LaGuardia Airport was shut down on Wednesday due to a sinkhole that was spotted during daily morning inspection. Port Authority of New York and New Jersey crews noticed the hole on the taxiway right on the edge of Runway 4/22 at around 11 a.m. and immediately closed it so necessary repairs could be made and a cause could be identified.
