Add wear and see how far each goes. This is very cool.

that sounds interesting, maybe something I should try to implement at some point

I would really like to better understand the math of how this works if you're willing to explain. Organic-like movement in 3D characters is a thing I would very much like to understand better (I know its a bit of an extension but wondering if this might be useful for it or not).

there are several components, for the simulation approach, you can find more info here and here for training:

and 3D is also possible

Have you tried to integrate a process for reaction to obstacles or to projectiles?

kind of, I guess you could consider this reaction to obstacles in a sense

Its sorta interesting but I mean more like a reflex with a reduced cognitive load. Think like Matrix dodge of a dodgeball or like a person walking in a hallway with a lot of people and weaving between them through a crowd while getting shoved around.

Or like trying to catch a pencil that is about to fall off the table

there are only proprioceptive sensors in my simulation at the moment, so I haven't tried that, I guess that would require some additional vision-like sensors, but it's possible in principle with additional sensors

Looks like the right has better ground control.

I've been working on a vertex editor, like inkScape, with an added dimension (Z, namely) and I've been searching for a way to add musculature and brain tissue to *any* object you can possibly make, and have it learn locomotion. I think that's why you popped up in my feed,

Reminds me of jelly car

wait this is cool. Are you designing these by hand or algorithmically?

not by hand, it's a neural network mapping proprioceptive signals to muscle control signals, trained with reinforcement learning

Love these little guys Have you made any in 3d yet?

yes, here's a recent one in 3D

Awesome!

It would be interesting to do different configurations of muscle/skeletal distribution in different terrains and with the addition of an energy system to see which movement patterns in which body configurations are more efficient. Adding a survival/feeding aspect too.

Lack of muscles in the back leg gives the left one a limping gait

Left is a seal

This stuff is begging for genetic algorithms

I tried GAs several years ago but these days I mostly do RL

How do u make this stuff? Looks fun!

it's a neural network mapping proprioceptive signals to muscle control signals, trained with reinforcement learning, the simulation library is open source

@davidcoffeeboy Oh wow. Would this be applicable to 3D critters?

@davidcoffeeboy yes, 3D is possible

@davidcoffeeboy Ohoho and could you set up this critters rewards to train for direction?

@davidcoffeeboy yes, I tried that some time ago, I don't have a video right now, but yes, it's possible to train it to move in different directions

Left one seems better optimized, does it use less energy?

Seal vs rabbit

that's basically what i think every time i see an olympian.

💡 game of life but it's a platformer

This is why heel to toe or your shoes or what ever probably matters alot

twinkle toes on the right

triangles triangles everywhere!

brilliant
