The chance of me giving you bay leaves at the bar is low… but never zero

Feeling Fantastic

Outside of plants, music, and games, one of my favorite hobbies is weight lifting. To my surprise, I hit a bunch of my goals yesterday! I didn’t think I would be able to as I have had significant knee and shoulder pain, but I worked back into it slowly and now we hitting goals!

I don’t know how this gym got person to do indoor fire works…

I have a presentation on this

Coworking stream was a success!!

Thank you OctoNation for the cute merch and educational materials!

Mulberry Madness strikes again

Lignin makes wood hard. Have you consumed this complex organic polymer? #wood #pear #fruit

Everybody will be dancing and we’re doing it right.

I’m in heaven now, so sorry I died. I’m happy here

The Strawberry Tree (Arbutus unedo) is shrub to small tree in the blueberry family native to the Mediterranean! “Unum tantum edo“ wrote Pliny the Elder meaning “I only eat one” perhaps because they are bland, or as I like to think, they are so good he only treats himself to one.

Come hang on Twitch and play cult of the lamb! Tin whistle ritual is a blessing to the golden Ram for good fortune

The Smell of Grass 🌾

It’s never a bad time to learn about the science of seeds, especially germination! Much like the seed, I too am waiting for imbibition, restoration, and elongation. #botany #horticulture #seeds #germination

Skip the ice cubes and go straight for the TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR! 💦🌱

Rocky Raccoon (Matthew’s Version)

Have you ever gotten wet around your plants? Might be Guttation?!

Why does grass make you itchy?

The Creatures of St Thomas, US Virgin Islands!

They say everything poops, but what about your houseplants? 🌱💩 The science of plant waste is more complex than you might think!

🌳Have you seen cut trees like this? 🌳

NEW VENOM SKIN in Marvel Rivals! Looks carnivorous, but I would say it’s more parasitic. I appreciate the incorporation of Rafflesia (parasitic plants) as a nod to the symbiotic (or rather non-symbiotic parasitic) nature of Venom.

🍃This plant is constantly moving! Have you seen a plant move this much before? Maranta moves its leaves up and down rhythmically over 24 hours. This type of non-directional movement based on day and night cycles is called nyctinastic movement.

Green Leaf Volatiles (Throwback to Dec 2023) Plants communicate in many ways!

Matthew runs around and looks at plants: STAR JASMINE AND FAMILY! Do you know any plants in the Dogbane Family (Apocynaceae)? #botany

Phreatophytes!

Don’t let socially constructed boundaries fool you! Planting native doesn’t mean “Native to your State”, it means native to your ecosystem. We can look at ecoregions (areas with distinct biotic and abiotic features) to understand our endemic systems.

If you show up early for your flight, you’ll have time to explore the plants at the airport! #botany #houseplants #horticulture #airport

What kind of plants can we find in downtown Oakland? We decided to run around Lake Merritt and focus on tree species first! Which area should we run around and look at plants next?

Have you seen plants pruned like this? This horticultural technique is called espalier, in which a woody plant is pruned to grow flat in a two-dimensional plane against a structure! Would you ever want to grow your fruit like this?!
