Casting him felt like a cultural rescue: taking someone the industry had started to forget and putting him back at the center, but with a completely different energy. The great thing is that Travolta did not come back trying to look young, modern, or desperate to be loved. He came back with a colder, stranger, more ambiguous presence. That made Pulp Fiction feel like more than a new film. It felt like Hollywood being forced to look again at someone it had written off. The industry had forgotten John Travolta. Tarantino turned that forgetfulness into power.
