San Diego officers had to use deadly force to stop a violent suspect On April 15 around 5 p.m. near the intersection of 16th Street and Island Avenue, San Diego Police responded to reports of a woman actively stabbing a man with a deadly weapon.Callers described an ongoing assault. Officers arrived on scene and immediately gave clear commands for the suspect to drop the object she was holding. Instead of complying, the woman advanced toward the officers. They gave additional commands. When she continued to move forward with the weapon, Officer Yand Grijalva fired multiple rounds, striking the suspect. She was also tased during the encounter. The 32 year old woman, identified as Denise Guzman, was hit multiple times but kept moving. Officers provided immediate first aid until paramedics arrived and transported her to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. She has since been booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats. No officers were hurt. This was a justified use of force against someone who refused every command and chose violence.
