The UK government will enforce the creation of non-consensual intimate images as a criminal offence starting this week. Technology Secretary Liz Kendall says deepfake intimate images being created through the Grok AI tool on X are 'vile' and the law will punish people who create them, as well as platforms for hosting it. Ofcom has also announced it has begun investigating over X in relation to potential breaches of the Online Safety Act.

Elliston Berry is an incredibly brave individual — she is a 15 year old girl from Aledo, Texas. She was the victim of an AI deepfake. This was a harmful and traumatic event that Elliston endured. Our bipartisan legislation, the TAKE IT DOWN Act, unanimously passed in the Senate last week. It will ensure that victims of AI deepfakes will have these images removed from the internet and makes it a federal crime to publish non-consensual intimate imagery.
