In my career, I've spent over $100,000 commissioning artists and animators. I held a fundraiser for animators in Japan. I've given graphic tablets to artists in need. I promote young animators that I think are talented without asking for anything in return. I created an original series (Demon Rush), with 15 manga chapters and 2 animated promo episodes- all original art and animation. Spent 4 years on it, but was not recognized for doing it the true hard way. In my latest video, I hired 3 animators and paid them well for their cuts. People on X are upset that I used AI to speed up the process in the fan animation, even though in the 4 update videos leading up to it, I was completely open about how I was using it. The same people who complained about Saitama vs Cosmic Garou having too many impact frames for their liking. I don't care about these people. They complain about literally everything. I make these for fun, not to impress anyone. Even if I spent 10 years making the best episode possible, 100% hand done, these guys would still complain. I did that before with Demon Rush. In any case, this was my last animated video. I am retiring from anime and moving onto other things, so you won't have to worry about me.

Marvel owned San Diego Comic-Con. A day later, people were still talking about the leaked DOOMSDAY footage, the cast onstage, Ghost Rider, Black Panther 3 and everything else that came out of Hall H. DC brought the director and star of CLAYFACE to the Jim Lee and Friends panel in Room 6DE. A room that holds fewer than 900 people. Not Ballroom 20 with nearly 5,000 seats. Not Hall H with 6,500. Room 6DE, which feels like somewhere you put a nice comics panel—not the next theatrical movie in your supposedly massive cinematic universe. And then it came and went. Nobody cared. James Gunn keeps arguing that he can generate the same engagement by posting a screenplay cover on Instagram. Maybe he can get the same number of likes. But engagement isn’t excitement. Hall H creates footage, cast photos, crowd reactions, leaks and a moment people keep replaying for months. An Instagram post tells you a movie exists. After SUPERGIRL killed much of the goodwill around the DCU, they needed more than that. They needed to show confidence. They didn’t have to out-cast DOOMSDAY. Give us one great MAN OF TOMORROW tease. Show Brainiac doing something terrifying. Show Superman realizing he can’t beat him alone. Put Lex beside him. Give people a reason to care. Instead, Marvel created the weekend’s defining moment while DC tucked CLAYFACE into a side room and hoped people would notice.

For generative AI to become an interesting art tool, we need much more control over the output. The slot-machine-like nature of pure text-to-image leaves too much to chance. Using the "Real-time Latent Consistency Model" that I'm using in the example here, is the first time I truly got a glimpse of a future where we'll be able to use our artistic skills and sensibility, to get control over AI image gen. Systems like these will never be able to match the quality or originality of a skilled artist, it won't surprise us in the same way an artist can. Things are a mess in terms of the training data these models are based on, and the questions about copyright concerns and about a time when everything will look the same are very valid. At some point capabilities like these will be embedded in photoshop, and anyone will be able to generate a pretty picture. But to create interesting designs, to tell original stories and to surprise us, we need creatives and artists with something on their mind. We'll be able to create immersive worlds, by making brush-strokes and sculpt marks, without needing to worry about all the dials, plugins, wires of our 3d and 2d tools today. I love to sculpt, I love to draw, and I love to explore new mediums and new ways to create. The Gen AI tools we have today are far from perfect, and things need to be steered in a better direction. For that we need artists to help point the way. Gen AI isn't going away.. it's too powerful and has the potential to allow us to tell stories like never before. Like all other big technological shifts, tech like this will come at a cost, but it will also open up new opportunities and empower a new generation of storytellers. I might be naive, but I believe that human ingenuity and creativity will persevere in this new world ♥️ #art #ai

Who Is Robert Mallary? Robert Mallary was one of the most successful American artists of the 1950's, known at the time mostly for his trash and assemblage and resin-based works. When the industrial resins he worked with severely poisoned him he was forced to abandon the practices that had made him famous and focus instead on digital art, possibly the first professional American artist to do so. Working at first with punch cards, he began a decades-long affair with what he called cybernetic art, the fusion of man and machine as a single creative entity. When he passed away in 1997 the work in his studio was cherry-picked by dealers and gallerists and much of the trash and assemblage work was hauled away. Surprisingly to modern sensibilities, almost all of the digital work was left untouched. This included thousands of plotters, reams of code, and even one of the first 3D prints in history, Quad II. It simply wasn't viewed as art yet. In 2019 the studio was finally sold and the remaining work was placed in a shipping container in New England, which is where we found it in 2021! Since then my life has been consumed by exploring Bob's complicated and expansive legacy through the archive and interviews with his family and friends. We've produced film and written works, reproductions of his sculptural work, a live exhibition at Pioneer Works, as well as minting progressively more of his work on ETH, both as 1/1s and editions. I'm looking forward to sharing more of Bob's work in the coming years, and I greatly appreciate everyone who has supported the project so far!
