For generative AI to become an interesting art tool, we need much more control over the output. The slot-machine-like nature of pure text-to-image leaves too much to chance. Using the "Real-time Latent Consistency Model" that I'm using in the example here, is the first time I truly got a... glimpse of a future where we'll be able to use our artistic skills and sensibility, to get control over AI image gen. Systems like these will never be able to match the quality or originality of a skilled artist, it won't surprise us in the same way an artist can. Things are a mess in terms of the training data these models are based on, and the questions about copyright concerns and about a time when everything will look the same are very valid. At some point capabilities like these will be embedded in photoshop, and anyone will be able to generate a pretty picture. But to create interesting designs, to tell original stories and to surprise us, we need creatives and artists with something on their mind. We'll be able to create immersive worlds, by making brush-strokes and sculpt marks, without needing to worry about all the dials, plugins, wires of our 3d and 2d tools today. I love to sculpt, I love to draw, and I love to explore new mediums and new ways to create. The Gen AI tools we have today are far from perfect, and things need to be steered in a better direction. For that we need artists to help point the way. Gen AI isn't going away.. it's too powerful and has the potential to allow us to tell stories like never before. Like all other big technological shifts, tech like this will come at a cost, but it will also open up new opportunities and empower a new generation of storytellers. If you read what I actually write in the post, some of those intentions might become more clear.. but in short, Gen AI isn't going away whether we like it or not. I love art, and I've been drawing and painting since I held a brush for the first time back in the early 80's. We need to consider how we can use this tech to make art tools that actually enable us to make art and tell stories in a new, meaningful way and in ways that will expand what we're able to do way beyond what was possible yesterday. The holodeck won't be possible to achieve using just photoshop and pen and paper ;)

Calls it “a tool” like stop-motion or CGI before and what ultimately matters is “imagination, originality” of whoever uses the tool: “I think AI — used in the right way — is a tool like any other tool. [The original] King Kong…was stop-motion and done by a person moving a rubber creature. Why shouldn't somebody on a computer using AI software be able to create their own imagery? They should. It's a tool. It's no different from many other tools that have existed over the years. The future filmmaker... I believe the next-gen filmmaker will be multifaceted. This will be the norm. A jack of many trades. He/she will be more than just a director. They will also be a technologist, a storyteller, a cinematographer, VFX artist, editor, writer, and producer. They will be able to control their destiny and greenlight themselves. They will understand how to marry sound with moving pictures. They will know how to work with actors and how to direct computers. Humans are and should still be at the center of it all. We evolve in other industries, and I believe the time has come to evolve in this industry. We saw it with James Cameron, George Lucas, and Ridley Scott. There have been glimpses into these multifaceted Artists and filmmakers. Let's embrace what's inevitable and continue to grow the industry we love dearly. Cheers to the future.

To be able to love something so much and be able to share that also with so many people is such a privilege and such a joy it's the fans and it's the it's my team that helps me get up every day to like come and fight." "The guys definitely felt pain yesterday, but I know the fans did too, but today's a new day. It's a new opportunity for us to be better and to do better. So it's the goal."

This is real-time.. The debate about Nvidia's latest neural rendering tech is ongoing. One side sees the potential of the technology to bridge the gap across the uncanny valley, to give us a much less rigid creative process than a to b to c.. the other side shouts "slop" and tries to shame any creative who dares to explore this new technology, any chance they get. Meanwhile, I'm over here saying "I told you so".. Gen Ai is here to stay, its becoming real-time and Nvidia now has the "RTX on" for AI which I've been talking about for years. We need creatives to help shape meaningful tools that combine this tech with much more granular creative control.. with tools where you as an artist see your creative thumbprint from beginning to end in the parts of the work that matters the most to you. If you're shaming artists or storytellers who embrace these tools, you're doing them a disservice in my opinion. If they don't learn to utilize these tools and workflows, to make them their own and to shape them, others will. There's no way this tech won't be a huge part of the creative industry and of the way we tell stories. It's happening around us as we speak. That said, at the core of it, do what makes you happy and create in any way you like. Don't let people tell you that "you can't do this" or "you have to do it like this".

Here's a quick test of a new tool called Krea. It's like the Real-time latent consistency model tests I've done with my photoshop and Dreams creations, but instead in a single application with faster refresh rates and higher quality output. I find that it strays too far from the drawing, and the editor is still quite limited but it's interesting to see nonetheless. It's not too difficult to imagine tech like this built right into Photoshop. And yes, I do know how to draw even if it doesn't show here 😅, I've been sculpting, painting and drawing for most of my life and I think it's exciting that tools like this will eventually help us break down some of the technical walls between our imagination and the visuals we create. And I'm not necessarily talking about drawing alone here because I don't see that going away as an art form, and I wouldn't want it to. But a hybrid of different art forms merging into a new, immersive art medium where anything is possible. Want to change the camera angle of your painting? Sure, go ahead. Want to make an animation of moving the camera around and seeing the light change in the scene as you do? In the example here, being able to move things around, change lighting and see it all reflected in the resulting image, is pretty amazing. Like a combination of the benefits of working in 3D, but with 2d tools. The moving version at the end of the video was made using Runways Gen-2. #art #ai

And it needs to be an inexpensive chip and it needs to be very power efficient So we think we believe the AI5 chip will be probably about a third of the power of say something like a Blackwell, an NVIDIA Blackwell, which is a great chip, for roughly comparable performance. And much less than 10% of the cost. This is a chip that is very much optimized for the Tesla AI software stack. So it's not meant to be a general purpose chip, it's meant to be an amazing chip for the Tesla AI software And I mean a couple of things that I think make... like how is Tesla able to achieve such an improvement? I think it is because we are specialized. We're not trying to... you know, NVIDIA has to serve the superset of all past and future customers. So all of their requirements, all of the software that they've written has to work, which is a very difficult problem. Whereas we just need to make it work for our software. And so we're able to simplify the chip dramatically And then we also, I think we're unique in this, but like we have an integer-based system. And integer operations are fundamentally more efficient than floating point operations. So we can do floating point, but the vast majority of our inference is done in integer. Which is, if you're familiar with sort of logic gates, the simplicity of integer... it's integer is much more power efficient, much more silicon efficient, but you have to, you actually have to train for integer inference, which everyone else is training for floating point. That's kind of like a niche technical detail, but it's actually very important. So, yeah, this is going to be a great chip So this chip will be made in basically in four places: TSMC Taiwan, Samsung Korea, TSMC Arizona, and TSMC Texas. And we already know what improvements to make for AI6. So I'm hopeful that we can within less than a year of AI5 starting production, we can actually transition in the same fab to AI6 and double all of the performance metrics

The Niceaunties AI Video Grant At Fellowship, we believe in creating an environment for experimentation and the development of ideas. That is why, when niceaunties proposed a grant program for mentorship and the creation of AI videos, we immediately said yes. The program will help support six artists, to create a Solo Show for the Fellowship Daily program. The commitment is to produce 8 new videos based on a theme proposed by Niceaunties. This will be an open call for all the Daily Artists and the AI video community at large. Everyone is welcome to reply/submit a video for consideration. Each grantee will receive a total of 2ETH provided by Niceaunties and Fellowship, as well as mentorship from Niceaunties and alejandro cartagena. We encourage artists applying to consider this grant as a space of critical feedback and of experimentation. Artists are encouraged to be open to new ideas and to explore alternative ways of how to think of their practice. These funds and curatorial support are there to open up time for the creators to engage and create a space ideal for critical feedback. We believe that developing an artistic voice comes from experimentation and confrontation of ideas. Systems like OpenAI's new Sora video model, just shows us that anyone can create a pretty video or a beautiful picture using nothing but a text prompt. But if we are to use the technology to create interesting art, thought-provoking cinema, and great games.. we need control of the output down to a granular level if that's what our project calls for. We need better tools and better interfaces to interact with the generative matter. Here's another example of what that could look like. Imagine this combined with a system like Sora. With complete temporal coherence and an ability to lock down the look of elements once you decide they look as they should. #ThePowerofDreams #Sora
