VIJAYA MEHTA- THE ICONIC LEGEND! 💔 Deeply saddened to learn about the passing of #VijayaMehta. One of the finest theatre minds India has ever produced, an exceptional filmmaker, and above all, a remarkable human being.🥹🥹 I had the privilege of working with Vijaya Bai in Rao Saheb and Pestonjee. I had already done a few films by then and thought I understood something about acting. But every rehearsal with her reminded me how vast the ocean of this craft really is. In front of her wisdom, her understanding of human behaviour, and her extraordinary sensitivity, I happily became a student again. She never imposed her knowledge. She illuminated it. She never raised her voice. She raised your standards. Her discipline came wrapped in grace, her warmth in humility, and her brilliance in simplicity. The cruelest thing about death is that within moments of hearing the news, we are forced to speak about someone we love in the past tense. The heart takes much longer to accept what the mind has just been told. Thank you, Vijaya Bai, for your generosity, your affection, your guidance, and for reminding so many of us that acting is not about performing… it is about understanding life. My friend Joe Heschmeyer shared this testimony of conversion from protestantism with me from Catholic Answers Live today. I remember meeting this wonderful woman when I gave my talk in San Diego. She was open to a discussion afterward, but I could tell she was bothered by what I had shared. It clearly struck a chord, as she describes. But despite that outward appearance of rejection, it turned out that hearing about the Church Fathers catalyzed a process of considering the Catholic Faith that led to her conversion, and reception into this Church this year! Praise God! I know how she feels! Here is why I am sharing this clip: I have seen this pattern over and over again. This particular woman was quite mild, but I’ve known many people who sometimes violently reject anything that sounds Catholic. But it actually sows a seed, a question, and when they begin investigating that question, many of them end up becoming Catholic. Why? Because the Catholic Church is the Home of Truth, and whoever seeks Truth with all their heart will eventually find their way to Her, by God’s grace. The moral of the video? Always share the truth in love, and let the Holy Spirit take it where He wills. Pray for people. Fast for them. So much goes on we will never see. Sometimes God will show us some fruit a long time later. Sometimes He won’t. But we can trust that He is good, and always working. HE is the Great Converter! Pray for this wonderful woman. Welcome Home, sister!

Deanna Durbin was born Edna Mae Durbin on December 4, 1921, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Her British-born parents moved to California while she was still young, and her singing voice soon had talent scouts knocking at her door. She signed a contract with MGM in 1936, at the age of 14, which resulted in her appearance in Every Sunday (1936), a short that also starred Judy Garland. Deanna was dropped by MGM but was immediately picked up by Universal Pictures, which cast her in the role of Penny Craig in Three Smart Girls (1936). While preparing for the role she was coached intensely by director Henry Koster; it's doubtful she would have been the star she was had it not been for Koster. The profits from this film and its follow-up, One Hundred Men and a Girl (1937), rescued Universal from bankruptcy. The studio quickly capitalised on these hits, casting Deanna in two successive and highly acclaimed films, That Certain Age (1938) and Mad About Music (1938). With these films Deanna became Hollywood's darling. She reprised her role of Penny Craig in Three Smart Girls Grow Up (1939). Deanna was such a hit that she shared the Academy Award's 1939 Juvenile Award with Mickey Rooney “for their significant contribution in bringing to the screen the spirit and personification of youth, and as juvenile players, setting high standards of ability and achievement”. Deanna's singing and acting ability had the world talking. There was no doubt she was the most popular performer of her day. She was, however, by nature a very private individual, never comfortable with the glitz, glamor and publicity that came with stardom. Despite her uneasiness, she continued to churn out hits and kept the public enthralled. In 1943 she played Penny Craig again, for the third time, in Hers to Hold (1943). Deanna's final film was For the Love of Mary (1948), whereupon, at the age of 27, she simply walked away. For a star of her stature, that took a tremendous amount of courage. All she wanted was to be anonymous. She had numerous offers to return to the screen well after she retired from acting and turned them all down. She granted only one interview since 1949; film historian David Shipman interviewed her in 1983. Deanna's singing and acting ability had the world talking. There was no doubt she was the most popular performer of her day. She was, however, by nature a very private individual, never comfortable with the glitz, glamor and publicity that came with stardom. All she wanted was to be anonymous. She had numerous offers to return to the screen well after she retired from acting and turned them all down. She granted only one interview since 1949; film historian David Shipman interviewed her in 1983. The goal was simple but hard: stop relying on random footage stitched together with a voiceover, and instead build something continuous. Scene by scene. Moment by moment. Reaction by reaction. A love story told through glances, small talk, and the kind of silences that say more than dialogue. Risa (Icha) was inspired by a remarkable woman I admire. A middle-aged lady who could not have children of her own adopted an orphan girl at the age of eight. That girl is Icha. She grew up to become someone with a depth of warmth and maternal instinct that is hard to describe. When her adoptive mother later took in two more orphans, Icha, now 24, naturally became both an older sister and a mother figure to them. Through her I wanted to explore something I find genuinely beautiful about Southeast Asian women: that nurturing instinct, so quiet and so deep, it doesn't need to be taught. It simply is. Riandi (Rian) is a reflection of my younger self. Long before I married my wife, we lived in different cities. Every weekend I would take a two hour travel bus just to see her. No WhatsApp back then, no easy communication. Just a longing strong enough to move. We never went anywhere fancy. Cheap warung food, roadside stalls, just sitting together. It was never about the place. It was about needing to see her. That kind of love makes you do things that make no logical sense, and you do them gladly. We eventually got married. She gave me three boys. All of them. I probably wouldn’t even be talking about her. I’d be letting the investigation and the court trial play out. But I definitely wouldn’t be talking to her as if she’s a serious investigator and a good faith actor. These people already know she’s no friend of theirs. She’s been mercilessly mocking them for “not grieving right” and “not acting right.” Nothing they do is going to please her, so why should they try to please an enemy? The enemy who’s going to twist their every word and put their every action or inaction under a microscope so as to interpret it in the least grace-less way possibly? Moreover, unlike Candace, people like Frank are likely actually under a gag order because they’re eye-witnesses. Why would they talk to Candace? Lastly, it’s outrageous to say it’s a betrayal of Charlie for them to not be answering certain questions right now, two months out while an investigation is ongoing and the accused hasn’t even stood trial. But see, she does that because she knows she can’t say with confidence that they betrayed him to the point of actually killing him, so she twists it to, “see how they’re ‘betraying’ him by not answering our simple questions? The way Cihan proposes speaks volumes. This is the extended, improved version of the 'I'm not promising you a rose garden, Alya' of ep 28/29. This is the proposal of a man humbled by destiny and life. Which is why it includes no boasts. Instead, Cihan states facts. Cold, hard facts about himself, his life, and the difficulties Alya will face if she chooses him again. Underneath all that honesty is a man desperate for Alya to agree, but this time, his anxieties take a backseat because this is too important a deal for Cihan to botch up. So, he tells Alya he can't promise her an easy life, but he can promise her all of himself, as long as she continues to grace his life with her presence. And, Alya replies 'evlinerim' and 'buna da varim' - in other words, she accepts him and all that comes with him. All the craziness, the hardships, and everything else are acceptable as long as she has Cihan with her. And, that's why I said this proposal and Alya accepting the proposal in the way she does is one of the strongest hints these two are definitely getting hitched. It's the crossing of another threshold in their lives and relationship (him calling the ring a 'key', carrying her across the doorway, and sealing the deal with their bodies). Kind of like 'don't regret it later' in ep42, and then Alya walking under the shower to rise to the occasion. Because while all hell does break loose after they're together, even then, they still don't give up. Think about it, what are the reasons that could push Alya into leaving? Even if someone lies to her about Serhat, we've seen her refusing to leave Cihan's side when the whole bocek drama. Could it be someone threatening Cihan? Nope. Alya isn't the kind to keep that under wraps either, as seen by how she tells Cihan Demir's offer and how she barges into the hotel, thinking the Bulgarians have him. I initially thought it might be because she wants to give Cihan the freedom to choose without any obligations, but after this proposal, that's out too. Because this proposal removes any ambiguity about where Cihan's heart truly belongs. Disregarding his feelings now would be equal to disregarding the choice he's already made. Remember how she asks Cihan why no one is asking her what she wants when they're on the Firat trip? She's not about to do the same to Cihan. Now, let's focus on why she'd stay. One, she has Deniz's custody, so there's nothing pulling her in two opposite directions now. Plus, she's certain now that Cihan will go to any lengths to keep her and Deniz safe. Two, Cihan's increasing emotional transparency. We've seen this before in ep26-27. The more Cihan opens up to Alya, the more comfortable she becomes in her own skin. And, this time, Cihan's being very open about what Alya means to him and how Meryem is a shadow of the past that no longer belongs anywhere in his life. Three, her own love for Cihan is a determining factor. Alya loves Cihan enough to stay with him despite Mine wielding Boran's parentage over their heads. She gives up Deniz's location to save Cihan. She donates her kidney to ensure nothing happens to him. She risks saving Cihan from a car that's about to explode - you get the picture. And four, Alya's growing ability to read Sadakat's moves. S1 Alya reacted to Sadakat. S2 Alya observes and picks her battles. She already suspects Sadakat is up to something that includes Meryem, so she's on her guard. Which means Alya refusing to leave this time will break the wheel. Cihan's last wedding witnessed a bride too weak to fight for her love (apparently) and thus lost the opportunity to be with him. Alya's done nothing but fight to be with Cihan. There's a reason why Cihan's proposal includes the words, "You had a hundred thousand reasons to leave me… but you stayed." That line isn’t there to foreshadow Alya finally walking away.
