Today, together with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, we signed the Agreement on the Establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. Today’s Agreement and this Tribunal give us a real chance to ensure justice for the crime of aggression. We must send a clear message: aggression leads to punishment. And we must do this together — as all of Europe. The Hague is waiting for those responsible. There must be accountability. We are grateful to the Council of Europe for taking the lead in this process. Justice will certainly be restored.

The objection by the representative of India to Pakistan's mention of Jammu and Kashmir in the Arria Formula meeting was not surprising to us. India, as a party to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, has actually refused to implement the Security Council resolutions on this dispute, and has even refused to cooperate with the United Nations, including the good offices of the Secretary-General, and with all those mechanisms that form part of Chapter VI. As I stated in my statement, Kashmir is an international dispute. It is on the agenda of the Security Council. It was never a part of India, and it is not, and cannot be, part of India — because this was the core question at the heart of these Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. The purpose was to determine the status of this territory: whether it wishes to be part of India or Pakistan. That status has not yet been determined, because the resolutions have not been implemented. To assert that Kashmir is a part of India is, in fact, itself a violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions. French President Macron on social media: We must go further in the regulation of social media in order to preserve the DNA of our democracy. Because at the same time, we are opening Pandora’s box and allowing a lot of hate speech on these platforms and social media. We are too weak and too naive. And we should ask these platforms, first, to completely block bots. We have to be sure there is one single person with one account. If this is an AI system, if this is bought and organized by a big organization, it should simply be forbidden. We need transparency of the algorithm. We are a democracy. We don’t ask for the IP, but we do ask for transparency, which is part of our democracy. We need responsibility from these platforms when they don’t respect our social order, when they don’t respect our rules. And to allow us to do so, we have to go further in order to sue those who clearly decide not to respect our rules and our regulation. And we should block all those who refuse to comply.

#WATCH | Delhi: After the all-party meeting, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi says, "The winter session is only 19 days long, of which discussions can take place only for 15 days. This will likely be the shortest winter session ever. Therefore, it seems the government itself wants to derail Parliament. We raised the security issue, which should be discussed. The blast in Delhi is, in some ways, a testimony to the failures of our legal and home affairs departments. The second is the security of democracy. Apparently our US colleagues (Ambassador Mike Waltz, U.S. Mission to the UN) still condescendingly divide the world in two categories: self-proclaimed “rulers of the Universe”, who can do whatever they want “to promote the interests of the US government” (US and its allies) and all the others. In the spirit of Borellish “beautiful garden vs jungle” paradigm. No need to comment anything here. It’s worth reminding for the record however that in the context of Ukrainian crisis Russia has used veto in the Security Council only once, when the proposed “humanitarian” resolution on Ukraine was politicised in breach of the existing practice on these matters. Moreover, we immediately proposed our own draft: an exact replica of the vetoed one but without politicised passages. Here’s a link to our explanation of the vote on that day: As for the US, it has already used its veto 5 times since October 7 to shield Israel from any responsibility for its actions in Gaza. Once it even prevented Security Council to condemn Hamas action, a fact that the US doesn’t like to recall. And according to our US colleague, she doesn’t see any need to make any excuses for paralysing the Council’s work on Middle East. All this makes the US first degree accomplice of Israel’s crimes in Gaza and the murder of almost 42 thousand civilians. This is unbecoming of the UN SC Permanent member. Yes, veto is not just a privilege but an instrument to prevent one-sided decisions. But it is the US who abuses it like in the case with Gaza. Besides, US and its allies have the majority in the Council and they can easily use “a hidden veto” by outnumbering others and without recourse to the actual veto. That’s why we need such a reform of the SC where the collective West doesn’t have the sheer numbers that allow it to manipulate the Council.

Warmest congratulations to Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed, Ali Haidar Ahmed, the Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development of Maldives, on his compelling address during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78). His speech effectively put the spotlight on the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) inability to respond to the ongoing genocide in occupied Palestine due to a one veto cast within the Security Council. Indeed, it's evident that the veto power within the UNSC is exploited by five powerful countries for their own interests, rather than for the global good. This is particularly true when considering the use of veto to shield Israel's oppressive and genocidal actions in occupied Palestine. I wholeheartedly back Maldives' proposal that the UNSC's veto power should be abolished for the sake of global fairness, equality, unity, and peace. Like many others, I believe that the UN's effectiveness is compromised by the unethical use of veto power by its founding members on significant global issues. It's crucial that the UNSC's veto authority is removed from these countries for a much better UN. As a result of these days, we see clear support from Europe. Even more unity, even more willingness to cooperate. Everyone is united on the main issue – for peace to be real, we need real security guarantees. And this is the position of all of Europe – the entire continent. The United Kingdom, the European Union, Türkiye. Of course, we understand the importance of America, and we are grateful for all the support we’ve received from the United States. There has not been a day when we haven’t felt gratitude. It’s gratitude for the preservation of our independence – our resilience in Ukraine is based on what our partners are doing for us – and for their own security. What we need is peace, not endless war. And that’s why we say security guarantees are the key to this.

Because if we leave in place this Supreme Court, it'll be a permanent veto on any and all progressive legislation at the hands of a rogue branch of government. It's not enough to get caught trying; we need meaningful, lasting change, and that doesn't happen without Court reform.
