Israel also chose to refer to an unrelated incident and make misleading remarks regarding Pakistan in an effort to justify its own illegal actions and violations of international law. Pakistan's position on that incident has been clearly stated and is publicly available. The international community is well aware of Pakistan's frontline role and sacrifices in the international community's fight against terrorism. Pakistan condemns the initiation of unwarranted attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran, in violation of international law. Yet again, these attacks come at a time when renewed diplomatic efforts were underway to reach a peaceful and negotiated solution. Such a course of action will undermine the peace and stability of the entire region, with far reaching consequences. Pakistan also condemns the attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, and stands in solidarity with all these brotherly countries and underscores the need to exercise maximum restraint. With regards to terrorism, India may export violence abroad through state-sponsored terrorism — from terrorist proxies to extra-judicial assassinations — but it cannot hide its fingerprints in the country of origin. Kulbhushan Jadhav remains a living evidence of India’s covert operations inside Pakistan. The TTP, BLA and Majeed Brigade, aided, financed and operated from Afghan soil, have killed thousands of innocent civilians in Pakistan. Security Council reform must be comprehensive and addressed as a single undertaking, including the question of veto, which is intricately linked to the other four clusters. We oppose deferring this issue or addressing it in isolation. We have repeatedly heard from colleagues since this morning the emphasis on core and agreed principles of democracy, representation, accountability, effectiveness and transparency as the foundation for reform. It was expected that India would join us today in condemning Islamophobia and would also brief the participants about the steps it will take to alleviate the plight of millions of Muslims and other religious minorities suffering from the hate-filled extremist Hindutva ideology in its country. India, however, chose to deflect this question and tried to politicize today’s debate. This is a disservice to the victims of Islamophobia and undermines efforts being made by responsible states of the world to combat this hate-spewing ideology. Pakistan has strongly condemned the unilateral and unlawful recognition by Israel of the “Somaliland” region of the Federal Republic of Somalia. It is a direct assault on Somalia’s internationally recognized borders and constitutes a flagrant violation of international law. The “Somaliland” region remains an integral, inseparable, and inalienable part of Somalia. No external actor has either the legal standing or the moral authority to alter that fundamental reality. We strongly believe that all disputes must be resolved through peaceful means and in accordance with international law. Continued hostilities, use of force and unilateral actions will only take us further away from the resolution of core issues and cause unnecessary humanitarian suffering. The threat or use of force would only aggravate the situation and undermine regional and international peace and stability. The conflict between Pakistan and India in May last year reminded that the root cause of instability in South Asia remains India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, in gross violation of Security Council resolutions. The continued denial of the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people has grave human rights consequences and imperils durable peace.
