Seems like Visual Studio Code is starting to tell you: your agent primitives need to move. There is now a new migration banner in the Chat panel, and it is part of a much bigger change happening under the hood: the move from the old Local harness to the... new Agent Host architecture built around AHP. This is not just about moving where an agent runs. The old model was very VS Code-centric: prompts, custom agents, instructions and skills could live in VS Code-specific locations and the agent runtime lived inside the extension host. The new Agent Host separates the agent runtime from the editor. Sessions can keep running when the window closes, be shared across VS Code windows, run remotely, and support different harnesses such as Copilot, CLI and Copilot Desktop App through a common session layer. And that means some of our primitives need to move too. Prompt files are being deprecated for Agent Host and migrated to Skills. User-level agents and instructions that lived in VS Code profile storage need to move to harness-supported locations. Even the old location settings are being deprecated. The new migration experience can detect these things and guide you through moving or converting them, while keeping the originals unless you explicitly remove them. The new banner is basically the first visible sign that this migration is becoming a real product workflow. Basically telling us - it's time to move on!!!! If you have accumulated a lot of prompts, custom agents, instructions and skills over the last year, now is probably a good time to understand where they actually live and which harness owns them. To summarize the shift - it isn't just: VS Code Chat → Agent Host It is: VS Code-specific primitives → harness-native primitives. And I think this is going to become increasingly important as agents stop being features inside an IDE and become runtimes that multiple clients can connect to. Go run your migrations now 🏃‍♀️show more

Those building AI coding agents will eventually hit the same wall: No matter how smart the model is, the moment you ask it to write production-ready code with the latest libraries, it starts hallucinating. Everyone is building coding agents these days, but most of them run into the same issue: They're coding with outdated documentation. The root cause isn't the model. It's the retrieval layer. If you are building an AI agent that needs information from specific domains such as code, law, academia, and finance Sign up, connect it to your agent, and you'll see the difference immediately.

New open-source agent harness just landed! I got early access to TrueForge by TrueFoundry and have been running it locally for the past few days. The harness layer deserves as much attention as the model, and open source matters here because you can inspect the loop, run it on your own infrastructure, and swap to the latest or cheaper models. TrueForge handles the runtime work that makes an agent reliable. It drives the tool-calling loop, manages context, coordinates subagents, and executes code in a sandbox, with any model you choose. Every tool call re-sends the growing context to the model, so in practice the harness controls most of what an agent costs to run. A few things stood out from my testing and their published benchmarks. Vendor-Neutral by design. It runs OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google models alongside open-weight models like Kimi, GLM, and DeepSeek. Model routing is a setting, and you can send each task to the model that fits it. On a 14-task enterprise agent benchmark, it matched the accuracy of Claude Managed Agents running the same Opus 4.8 model at roughly 30% lower cost per run (3.8M tokens vs 10M for the same answers). Routing the same tasks to GLM-5.2 held accuracy and brought cost down by about 75%, around $3 per run instead of $12. Fully self-hosted and Open Source (MIT License). I had it running locally with one command, with sandboxed code execution working out of the box. It's time to own your agent harness. Thanks to TrueFoundry for partnering on this post.

ANTHROPIC JUST TURNED AI AGENTS INTO GIT REPOS Anthropic shipped "ant" - a CLI that runs every Claude API endpoint straight from your terminal. The headline isn't the terminal access. It's that you can now version-control an AI agent as YAML in Git and have CI sync it to the Claude Platform, the same way you ship code. - Every API resource is a subcommand: messages, models, files, agents, sessions - Define an agent in a YAML file, check it into your repo, and keep it in sync with one update command - Spin up a session, send it an event, then pull every event and tool call back from the same CLI - Claude Code knows how to drive ant out of the box - it shells out and reads the results with no glue code Agents just stopped being prompts you babysit and became infrastructure you deploy.

Something just launched that makes VS Code feel ancient. And im all in for it: Cline Desktop app, an open-source app for open-weight models (and you know how much i love open source) brings its coding agent into a standalone Cline Desktop app for Mac + Windows. Just open a project and tell it what you want to change. No need to open VS Code first. In Cline's demo, it adds priority filters to a task board, works through the code and runs the build. Glad to see the model choice stays open, too. You can bring your own API keys, use supported open-weight models and even switch models halfway through a project!

If you are trying to understand where AI agents are going, learn harness engineering. A capable model is only one part of an agent system. Once the model begins reading files, calling tools, modifying state and working across many steps, the quality of the system depends increasingly on the software around it. Consider a coding agent working through a large repository. The model can decide that it needs to inspect a file, search for a symbol, make an edit or run a test, but those decisions do not execute themselves. The surrounding runtime has to decide which resources are available, whether the requested action is permitted, how the operation should be performed, what result should be retained, and what information should be presented to the model on the next step. This becomes harder as the run gets longer. As history accumulates, replaying everything can become costly and less effective. The harness has to decide what should remain in context, what should be summarized or retrieved later, and what belongs in persistent state outside the context window. Execution has similar problems. A long-running agent may need to survive an interruption, avoid repeating completed work, enforce permissions around consequential actions, and preserve enough history to reconstruct what happened when the final result is wrong. These are harness problems. The harness is the layer that manages context, tools, execution, state, checkpoints, limits and traces around the model. Harness engineering is the work of designing and improving that layer. Engineers inspect execution traces, evaluate agents on representative tasks, look for recurring failure modes, and then change things such as context selection, tool interfaces, state handling or execution controls. That last part matters because agent failures are often not fixed by changing the model. Sometimes the useful change is in what the model sees, how a tool is exposed, what state is preserved, or what the runtime does after a failed step. As agents take on longer tasks, the demands on this surrounding software grow. Model capability remains essential, but harness engineering is what turns that capability into an execution process that can be controlled, inspected, tested and improved.

Replit, Vercel, and OpenAI have built very cool agent-native applications, but nobody else has passed the demo stage. Building agents that work is complex. Teams aren't shipping agents because we don't have good tooling yet (and most of us don't know how to do this well.) A couple of days ago, the CopilotKit🪁 team announced a collaboration with . You can now use LangGraph with CoAgents to build agent-native applications, and here is everything you need to know about that: CoAgents is fully open-source, and you can use it to do the following: • Human-in-the-loop to steer and correct the agent • Stream intermediate agent state • Real-time state sharing between the agent and the application • Agentic generative UI to build trust that the agent is on the right path Start this GitHub Repository: Thanks to the team for giving me early access and collaborating with me on this post.

The Visual Studio Code insiders version that just shipped and will ship in the next few days will come with an insane amount of new capabilities. A few highlights: - You can now run sub-agents in parallel. Yes, really. I even attached a video. - Major UX improvements for sub agents, especially visible in the chat window - A new search tool wrapped as a sub-agent that iteratively runs multiple search tools: semantic_search, file_search, grep_search Which connects nicely to the point above: multiple searches running in parallel, efficiently and fast - Anthropic’s Message API is now enabled by default - You can choose the model for the cloud agent (three available, all premium) - Extended thinking support when using the Claude cloud agent This is part of the broader multi-vendor cloud support under AgentsHQ I wrote about a few weeks ago - Tasks sent to the background agent (basically the CLI tool) now always run in isolation, each with its own git worktree - In a multi-repo workspace, assigning a task to a cloud agent prompts you to choose the target repo Same behavior when opening an empty workspace with no repo - Support for building an external index for files not supported by GitHub’s default indexing - UI/UX improvements for starting new sessions and switching between local / background / cloud agents - Skills are now first-class citizens, just like prompt files, with better UX indicating when a skill is loaded - Improved API for dynamic contribution of prompt files New V2 includes skills as part of the model. Curious to see the extensions that will leverage this - Finally, initial support for showing context usage percentage per session - Skills are enabled by default - Resizable chat window and session view. Small thing, but it was driving me crazy 😁 - A new integrated browser meant to replace the old simple browser Maybe the beginning of real browser use? - Better UI/UX for token streaming in chat - Ability to index external files not supported by GitHub There’s a lot more. Some of it hasn’t fully landed yet, but everything that has is already in Insiders. The next stable release should drop in early February. As usual, I’m just shocked by the volume of features this team ships every month. After the holiday slowdown, this one is shaping up to be a wild release.

OpenClaw, but built for normal people. Sim is an open-source platform that lets you build AI agent workflows on a drag-and-drop canvas. Connect them to channels like Telegram and WhatsApp and deploy without writing a single line of code. They also have a built-in Copilot that generates entire workflows from plain English, which you can then tweak and customize in the UI. Key features: - Free and open-source (Apache 2.0) - Vector store integration for RAG-grounded agents - Self-host with one command (`npx simstudio`) - Run fully local with Ollama, no API keys needed - Supports vLLM for production-grade self-hosted inference The thing I really like about Sim is the level of control you get. You can add conditional branching, parallel execution, human-in-the-loop approval gates, and even nest workflows inside other workflows. Everything is visible on the canvas, so you know exactly what your agent is doing at every step. And you can build a workflow in Sim, deploy it as an MCP server, and plug it into any agent, including OpenClaw. I've shared the link to Sim's GitHub repo in the next tweet.

this is the worst local ai will ever be. it only gets better from here. if you are not expanding your mind with these small models you are missing what's happening right now 99 percent tool call success rate. when steered well with the right skills and a framework like hermes agent the node becomes a cognition layer. not a chatbot. not a toy. an extension of how you think. i was cranking this node at 35 to 50 tok/s all day on personal experiments and now after all the work is done qwen 3.5 9B is iterating on its own code. the game it created. fixing its own bugs autonomously. and the part you should probably not miss is that all of this is happening on a RTX 3060. not an H100. not an A100. the card most of you have sitting in a drawer right now. if you just open that drawer and put that intelligence to work every tensor core on that card should be running for you. your work. your experiments. your thinking. you all have it but because nobody told you what this hardware can actually do in 2026 you never tried. the day it unlocks is the day you test your workload, understand the tradeoffs, debug the loops, and then decide if you need to scale the hardware. there is no point buying 3 mac studios when things done well you can squeeze a similar level of intelligence from 9B compared to 70B. but only when you create the right environment for your model through the right harness. and let me tell you i have tried claude code as a local harness. i have tried opencode. i have tried various others. somehow i landed on hermes agent and never left. there is something magical going on at Nous Research. the tool call parsers, the skills system, the way it handles small models natively. nothing else comes close for local inference. own your cognition. your AI. your agent. your prompts. your experiments. why give them away for free. those are who you are and they don't belong on someone else's servers being monitored. just give it a shot with your existing hardware. you run into a problem the community will help you. and if you are migrating from openclaw to hermes i will personally help you make the switch.

OpenAI's AgentKit will be so insane, build every step of agents on one platform. These visual agent builders make the whole process of iterating and launching agents far more efficient. It sits on top of the Responses API and unifies the tools that were previously scattered across SDKs and custom orchestration. It lets developers create agent workflows visually, connect data sources securely, and measure performance automatically without coding every layer by hand. The core of AgentKit is the Agent Builder, a drag-and-drop canvas where each node represents an action, guardrail, or decision branch. Developers can link these nodes into multi-agent workflows, preview results instantly, and version each setup. It supports inline evaluation so that developers can see how changes affect output before deploying. The Connector Registry is a single admin panel that manages how data and tools connect across the OpenAI ecosystem. It centralizes integrations like Google Drive, SharePoint, Dropbox, and Microsoft Teams. Large organizations can govern access and flow of data between agents securely under one global console. ChatKit provides a ready-to-use chat interface for embedding agents inside apps or websites. It manages streaming, message threads, and model reasoning displays automatically. Developers can skin the interface to match their product without writing custom front-end code. Under the hood, all these blocks use the same execution core that runs agent reasoning through OpenAI’s APIs. Workflows in Agent Builder compile down to structured instructions for the Responses API, which handles model calls, tool use, and context passing. Connector Registry handles authentication and routing for external tools, while Evals and RFT provide feedback loops that improve agents over time. This integration means developers no longer need to handle orchestration logic, model evaluation pipelines, or safety layers separately. Everything runs natively within OpenAI’s control plane with managed security, automatic versioning, and built-in testing. In short, AgentKit standardizes the entire life cycle of an AI agent—from visual design to deployment and performance tuning—inside a single unified system.

Excited to launch a new way to upskill with AI agents. This is how we are making it possible for anyone to learn to build with coding agents. To start, we are launching 4 new hands-on labs on the following topics: - Agent Skills - Agentic Image Generation - 30 Days of Hermes Agents - Prompt Engineering with Agents I am confident that with our new DAIR.AI platform, anyone can learn to become a top AI builder by building and acquiring highly-demanded AI skills. And there is a lot more landing in the coming weeks.

Fundamentals Live for Agent Liquidity Engine (ALE) Now everyone can directly see the top agents leading in cumulative revenue, and exactly how much they have executed in all-time buybacks, through the Fundamentals board on the Virtuals landing page (Fundamentals currently only applicable to agents in ALE). Virtuals is built to support agents that solve real problems and sustain their own economies. The Agent Liquidity Engine exists to surface and scale those teams by: •Showcasing product strength that demonstrates clear utility •Tracking sustainable revenue that proves product–market fit •Highlighting agents that reinvest to reinforce their ecosystems By routing revenue back to scale the product and publishing these metrics, ALE turns long-term economic strength into an on-chain, verifiable signal. If your agent delivers real usage and sustainable revenue and you want to join ALE, please apply here: Our team will review and contact you if your project qualifies. ALE is where the agent economy separates hype from sustainability.

Increasingly, HTML Artifacts are becoming a core part of how I work with AI agents. Long-horizon agent sessions need a better way to surface insights about what work it has done. This may not be obvious right now, but as you start to let your agent work on dynamic workflows, large codebases, long-running loops (e.g., using /goal), and deep research tasks, you need a good way to present results. Chat window is not it. You also don't want to just trust everything the agents do. Artifacts help provide an important verification layer, which in turn enables important decision-making. I like HTML artifacts because I can just ask the agent to produce as many of them (and in whatever form) as I need to verify the work and make sense out of everything. I even built a nice tab system for my artifacts. They are great for continual learning and research. I use HTML artifacts for logging, tracking experiments, brainstorming, managing my inbox, code reviews, agent session management, deep research, writing, reading, and so much more. I believe Andrej Karpathy wrote about this somewhere: As we move on to more advanced applications of AI agents and outputs get more complex, we will start to find the need for even more advanced forms of interactions with AI, including interactive neural videos/simulations.

300 AI AGENTS QUIETLY RUN 99% OF A REAL COMPANY. YOU HAVE NOT EVEN HEARD OF IT This is Raft. Not an AI chat. A workspace where the agents live in your channels and reply in the thread like coworkers. You give one goal. Then they take over. They plan. They build. They check each other. They argue. And they come back with it done, while you sleep. Every agent has its own name, role, and memory. It remembers the edits you made yesterday. A human costs one seat. An agent costs a tenth. Ten agents are cheaper than one hire. And here is the strange part. On June 19 an agent from a different company walked into Raft on its own and joined the team. One founder admits he can no longer always tell himself apart from his AI twin. 20,000 people are already inside. It is free to start. And you are still typing prompts one at a time. One person + Raft = an entire company that runs while you sleep. Save and watch the clip.

🧃 Introducing stereOS: a Linux based operating system hardened and purpose built for AI agents. It's clear that agents need an ACTUAL operating system (not what people are calling an "OS") to witness the full breadth and depth of their capabilities while mitigating the blast radius of autonomous, untrusted actors. But there are so many problems with AI sandboxes today: * Going out to the apple store and buying a mac mini will never scale and is way too expensive (obviously) * Running in Docker is too restrictive (agents can't stand up their own container infrastructure, no sub virtualization, docker-in-docker is very broken) * Firecracker strips all the hardware so GPU PCIe passthrough, secure boot, FIPs, etc. is out of the question. * Native VMs are too fat and the overhead of 1 agent per VM is too much. stereOS takes a different approach: it's a full NixOS system that you boot and then kick off agent sandboxes inside with gVisor + /nix/store namespace mounting. Each agent gets their own kernel and the /nix/store is read only by nature. Even if the agent was somehow able to escape the gVisor virtual kernel, they'd land on the NixOS system as the "agent" user! Not your actual hardware!! If you want to take a defense-in-depth approach, we support "native" agents that run at the system level kicked off by our `agentd` utility. These agents, on their own, can manage and kick off other sub agents using the internal sandboxing mechanisms. Today, we're open sourcing all of this: * stereOS: our purpose built Linux OS - * masterblaster: client utility to launch, manage, and orchestrate agents - * stereosd: the stereOS system control plane daemon - * agentd: the stereOS system agent management daemon - Give it a try, throw us a star, and let me know what you think 🧃⭐️

Introducing Pages on Superset mobile Your agents can now deliver interactive demos, mockups, and reports as Pages you can review from your phone. Ask an agent to build a feature, compare designs, or investigate a problem. It can put the result in a Page with the context you need to review it and give feedback. A few ways to use it: • Feature work: try an interactive demo, then inspect the code in the PR. • Design reviews: compare mockups and before-and-after screenshots. • Investigations: explore findings, charts, and recommendations in one place. To try it, ask your agent to build a feature and create a Page for you to review.

You can now post-train a model inside your existing production harness with our platform, AC2. A production harness is a whole engineered system around the LLM, with its own context management, tools, sandboxing, and control flows. Porting that into a new training runtime can be expensive and could introduce train-test mismatch, where the policy is optimized against a simulated harness and then struggles in production. All you need to do is swap out the harness’ LLM response endpoint to one provided by AC2, and expose a lightweight protocol for AC2 to initiate and grade rollouts; the trainer handles the rest.

you don't need to re-explain your codebase's architecture to your agent every session. most tools stop at telling you what broke. sentrux is a real-time architectural sensor, it watches your codebase as a live treemap and turns file structure and dependencies into one continuous quality score. the loop is simple: codebase > agent scans structure and dependencies > sentrux scores 5 root cause metrics into one signal > agent sees exactly where risk concentrates > next session starts from a live map instead of a blind grep the binary carries zero built-in language knowledge, all 52 languages live in plugin.toml and tags.scm query files, so a new language needs zero rust code. small catch: it only scores the structure, it won't tell you why the cycle happened, that part's still on you. built pure Rust with no runtime dependencies, specifically so it could sit as one binary between an agent and a codebase without adding friction.
