We are joining the Township of Roxbury in filing suit to stop the plan by ICE and DHS to convert a vacant warehouse into an immigration detention facility. This plan doesn’t just violate common sense – it violates federal law.

Salt Lake City council approved an ordinance change that could slow or block development of a warehouse into an ICE detention facility by limiting water usage. A water rights attorney explained that this is within the municipality’s jurisdiction, granted by state law. If the state wanted to intervene, they’d have to change state law in a special session. Immigration agents detained an employee of the New York City Council. "A regular checkin quickly went awry. He was taken in and he was moved to a detention center. He was a city council employee who was doing everything right. He went to the court when he was asked. I wanna be clear, he's legal authorization to remain and work in this country until October, 2026. After we learned of his detention, we immediately reached out to the ICE facility office at the Bethpage facility. But shockingly, the phone number doesn't even work. It says that the number is disconnected."
