Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) questioned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday about whether he had been unaware of the possibility of the Strait of Hormuz closing amid a conflict with Iran. The strait was “front and center” in every aspect of the department’s planning, Hegseth said while testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee. Reed also said Hegseth’s “fallback to the Biden administration is just a very, very, obvious excuse for what I think is probably, as you describe so often, gross negligence.”

Reed: Your fallback to the Biden administration is just a very obvious excuse for what I think is probably gross negligence. You did not fully inform the president that you would be in a situation where the Strait of Hormuz could be effectively closed. Hegseth: The fact that those contingencies all were part of the possibility, and we understood that is all the more reason why president trump deserves the kind of praise he should get. Reed: He should be praised for starting war without authority, creating a situation in which the world economy is suffering tremendously?

HEGSETH: We had US boats that surrendered to Iranian ships during the Biden administration-- REED: Listen -- we're talking about the war you started. Not a situation in which oil was flowing freely, there was no conflict, we weren't losing personnel. So your fallback to the Biden administration is just a very very obvious excuse for what I think is gross negligence.

.Secretary of War Pete Hegseth: "Our blockade has been reimposed and is effectively impenetrable... a lot of the strikes that Admiral Cooper and U.S. Central Command have been undertaking are taking [away] Iran's ability to see and sense in the Strait of Hormuz." Senator John Hoeven: "And that's what this funding is about... making sure that we and our allies can operate in the Strait of Hormuz... and that we force Iran to meet our objectives."

🔥 IRAN: WE HAVE NOT CLOSED THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ. Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs says it is not Iran's "fault and plan" that the the Strait of Hormuz is closed. "The transportation of oil has been slowed down or stopped NOT because of us." "It's because of the attacks and aggression made by Israelis and Americans against us." "They have made the whole region unsecured. And this is why the tankers, the ships, are scared to pass." "We have not closed that strait. We are not preventing them to navigate in that strait."

"The Americans try to get 5-6 ships [through the Strait of Hormuz] every day, spending huge amounts of money in the process, but these ships usually become targets. We haven't yet decided to sink them, because they are carrying oil products. If they were to pollute the entire Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, that would create a problem for us as well. However, none of them pass through safely; ultimately, they all sustain some kind of damage..." The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezai, commented on the US attempts to resume shipping in the Strait of Hormuz without Iran's involvement, and refuted Trump's claims about the "openness" of the strait: Trump's claim that the Strait of Hormuz is open is a complete lie. Before the Strait of Hormuz was closed, more than 100 ships were transporting over 100 million tons of cargo. Now, at most, only seven or eight ships pass through the strait, carrying essential goods for Iran.

IRGC-N Commander Tangsiri: The weapon that we will use during the battlefield on the day of war is different from what is shown in the exercise. If at any time of point, the security apparatus decides to close the strait of Hormuz, our forces will implement this in the shortest time possible. — Today: Some parts of the Strait of Hormuz will be closed for a few hours. They’ll be closed for the smart control exercise of the Strait of Hormuz, to observe safety and navigation principles. Ships will still be able to sail through other parts of the Strait of Hormuz.

🚨 IRAN WANTS TO TURN THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ INTO A TOLL ROAD Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Parliament’s National Security Committee: “We will under no circumstances allow the Strait of Hormuz to return to its pre-war status. Iran is not seeking to permanently close the Strait of Hormuz, but rather for the Strait of Hormuz to be under Iranian control and to benefit Iran. Parliament is about to approve a legal framework for the Strait of Hormuz that all entities will be required to implement.” (Amir Tsarfatai)

BREAKING: IRAN'S FOREIGN MINISTER ABBAS ARAGHCHI SAYS THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ IS OPEN: “The Strait of Hormuz is open. It is only closed to the tankers and ships belonging to our enemies, to those who are attacking us and their allies. Others are free to pass. Of course, many of them prefer not to because of their security concerns. This has nothing to do with us. There are many tankers and ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, and I can say that the Strait is not closed, but it is only closed to American and Israeli ships and tankers, not to others.”
