Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) questioned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday about whether he had been unaware of the possibility of the Strait of Hormuz closing amid a conflict with Iran. The strait was “front and center” in every aspect of the department’s planning, Hegseth said while testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee. Reed also said Hegseth’s “fallback to the Biden administration is just a very, very, obvious excuse for what I think is probably, as you describe so often, gross negligence.”
