The amendment aligns Uganda’s law with FATF and ESAAMLG recommendations on adopting a risk-based approach in regulating the non-profit sector. The amendment means that going forward, NGOs, churches and other charitable organisations are not required to register with the TheFIA_UG or file annual compliance reports as has been the practice. In an effort to ensure that the risk profile in the civil society sector remains low, we encourage NGOs, churches and other charitable organizations to adopt anti-money laundering policies and routinely conduct money laundering risk assessments to identify any gaps for appropriate action to avoid money laundering and terrorism financing. 🎥 Recording of the Session.
