He visited a number of factories, and assembled a prodigious amount of documentation and read many books such as Émile Zola's 'Germinal'. ("Sergei Eisenstein: A Life in Conflict", Ronald Bergan, 1997) P.S: On this day, 101 years ago, "Strike" (2025) was released in the Soviet Union.

On this day, 106 years ago, Robert Wiene's "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" (1920) premiered in Berlin, Germany. Sergei Eisenstein disliked the movie & criticised it very harshly. He said, ""The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" is a combination of silent hysteria, particoloured canvases, daubed flats, painted faces, and the unnatural broken gestures and action of monstrous chimaeras."
