This is all you need brother, and it doubles as a pillow once you are done

cant go wrong with Barossa Valley. beautiful place

AFL gather round takes place between April 8th-April 11th All 9 AFL games played in or around Adelaide in the 1 weekend. Hope this coincides with your visit.

It just might.

Barossa and McLaren Vale. Wineries to try before you go that you can drink here: Penfolds, Henscke, Torbreck, Leeuwin Estate. DO NOT DRINK YELLOW TAIL

I'm a huge fan of Californian Pinot Noir but sadly it's rare to come across it in Australia. A a couple high level recommendations on regions and their strengths. All of these places are stunning road trips too. Foodd etc is excellent in these regions. Adelaide Hills and a bit beyond; > Clare Valley for Riesling > Barossa Valley and surrounds for red, particularly Shiraz South Australia wider afield; > Coonawarra for Shiraz / Cab Sav Victoria > Mornington Peninsula for Pinot Noir > Yarra Valley for Pinot Noir > Heathcote and surrounds for Shiraz

Ok Grant here’s your options here in Adelaide & what you’ll experience at each, feel free to reach out for specific suggestions: Penfolds is a premium winery 12 minute cab ride from the city, also has a good lunch bistro High end bold reds especially Shiraz but other styles too Adelaide Hills ~30 minutes from the city, great quality Pinot Noir & Chardonnay with plenty of wineries offering fantastic restaurants…visit Ashton Hills winery as a smaller but high quality producer & closer to the city than others Barossa Valley ~60 minutes from the city Best known for very bold high quality reds especially Shiraz World class wineries out there, including Henscke McLaren Vale ~60 minutes from the city & coastal, it’s a great coastline area to stay as it’s minutes from the wineries Good variety of wines, plenty of bold reds but also lighter styles like Grenache & blends Clare Valley ~120 minutes from city Best known for world class Riesling Langhorne Creek ~50 minutes from city Good value reds, some good Cabernet & wide range of whites & reds Coonawarra ~180 minutes from the city Australian home of Cabernet Let me know if you want specific winery recommendations in these areas as I live in Adelaide & visit the wine regions often 🍷

you need to hook up with @Wine_Ambassador . he is the wine expert, does a spot on SEN and runs a bunch of events during Gather Round

Wine is everywhere here, you had some great wine regions within an hour drive whilst in Melbourne. You’re in luck as both Barossa and McLaren Vale are also incredible

Grant My recommendations by grape and region Semillion. Hunter Valley, NSW Pinot Noir. Yarra Valley, Victoria Cabernet/Shiraz. Barossa/McLaren Vale, South Australia Shiraz. Heathcote, Victoria Riesling. Clare Valley, South Australia Look up for Australian wines and their ratings

I know your trip concentrates on Adelaide. A drive thru the Adelaide hills to the south is stunning. It will be autumn so quite spectacular. But the bees knees of wineries is to the south of Perth - Margaret River. Home of the best Australian wines.

Adelaide has 3 regions all with in 45 mins, and they're all a bit different when it comes to Reds. Softer reds come from McLaren Vale, big bold Shiraz from Barossa and Pinot from Adelaide Hills. You'll find a lot of GSM blends that are great. Absolutely hit up @Wine_Ambassador

Beresford Estate Classic Shiraz from McLaren Vale made global headlines by scoring a whopping 97 points and winning the International Syrah Trophy at the International Wine Challenge—all for a modest $25 a bottle!

Pronounced Cher-Raaazzz 🍷🥂 Yay your dad is coming along thats great!!!

100% you need to visit Henschke wines in the Barossa Valley. Pretty sure you can get it in the states. One of the best in SA.

WA has the best

A McLaren Vale Grenache

Barossa Valley is to the North of Adelaide about an hour or so. Great Shiraz. McLaren Vale is about 45 mins South of Adelaide. Both are amazing with plenty of cellar doors

Hunter Valley mate. Two hours north of Sydney up the freeway. Wineries everywhere, great accommodation. You can also visit the city of Newcastle adjacent. Great beaches and pubs!

Adelaidean here. Map of main regions nearby -Barossa Valley=world renowned = 1.5hr drive. Hosting AFL match. Known for shiraz -McLaren Vale=45min. arguable vs BV. Also shiraz -Adelaide Hills = 30min - pinot noir / lighter varieties -Clare Valley = prob too far but good riesling

Chateau Tanunda

I like how you have figured out that what might sound like an insult (and indeed may be) actually becomes a term of endearment and pride. You have embraced ‘seppo’ and I salute you for it.

Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale are the places to go Penfolds Grange is probably the most premium Shiraz you can get Penfolds Estate is close to the city as well

Ignore everyone else, go halves with your dad in one of these, then go pick a fight with a bunch of tourists

McLaren Vale is closer to Adelaide than the Barossa - I haven’t been to either in a few years but I prefer McLaren Vale especially if you like reds

South Australian here. Massive wine lover who's visited all our wine regions many times. Barossa offers the most options. Best reds and cellar doors worth a visit imo..kalleske, kellermeister, Rockford, st hugo, Henley farm . Enjoy mate some of the best shiaz on earth

Be sure to try out some Sparkling Shiraz when you visit again. It is distinctly Australian.

Anything from Adelaide Hills is the best!

Start here. Will get K to list some of her cellar door favourties

In South Australia, pretty much the city and suburbs are surrounded by wine regions so you can't really go wrong. We have the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale as my top, plus more. I can recommend some form each if you like?

Aussie for Reds. New Zealand for Whites

Hey Grant, I've worked in the wine industry for 20+ years and now hands my own wine brand. I'll happily take you and your Dad to some amazing wineries in Victoria where I'm based, and the best wines are actually here!!

The Hills, then Langhorne Creek (underrated), then to McLaren Vale. Then do Clare and go back to Adelaide through the Barossa. Too many good wineries to list here. But make room for Rockford and Rieslingfreak in the Barossa.

Coonawarra, McLaren vale, Barossa and then end the trip at Penfolds Magill Estate

McLaren Vale is perfect and if you like Shiraz you must visit Battle of Bosworth wines. One of the best days out and so close to Adelaide.

Check out the Langton’s Classification Guide! They are Australia’s leading fine wine retailer and have this epic guide which will teach you everything you need to know about premium Australian wine - most of which comes from South Australia! Will give you everything you need!
