love gossip protocols for failure detection - but watch out for split brain when network partitions happen. We use phi accrual with a 5s threshold, detects failures way faster than basic heartbeats

This is one of my favorite movie endings... It has a powerful lesson: "At some point, everything is going to go south on you...and you're gonna say 'this is it, this is how I end.'
