I met with President of France Emmanuel Macron. We discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, the escalation by Russia against European countries, and the cases of detected drones in Poland, Romania, and Denmark, as well as fighter jets in Estonia. A swift response and action are needed. We also focused on the use of frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine and on further tightening sanctions against Russia, in particular regarding its shadow tanker fleet. I thank Emmanuel and all of France for supporting Ukraine and for efforts aimed at bringing peace closer.

Rotana (Arjaan) Hotel in Erbil and the adjacent Sky Towers residential building appear to have been targeted by a one-way drone, likely launched by Iraqi pro-Iran factions. Eyewitnesses say the drone struck one of the hotel’s rooms. No casualties were reported. Residents in the area say many Americans have recently moved into Sky Towers. That raises serious questions about why they are relocating to such a residential area, where it is difficult to maintain a low profile, information spreads quickly, and local residents are put at risk. At least four other drones were intercepted, but their intended targets remain unknown.

Strait of Hormuz the last 24 hours: fighting time. Well, it looks like the Strait is closed again. IRGC fired at two ships, one of them is sinking, so there's that. The US tried to get another group of tankers in, and two were hit. The two VLCCs made it in. Incredible that these tanker owners are fearless. As the escalation continues, tankers will likely transit without AIS on, but they ultimately turn it back on after they pass, so we will see them. Only time will tell how this conflict ends, but for now, the inbound VLCCs are completely insufficient to reduce the production shut-in. I have included the video from MarineTraffic and the tanker list below.

Rescue operations are now underway in various regions of our country following Russian drone strikes. In Sumy, a Russian drone struck near a shopping mall. So far, two people are known to have been killed and fourteen others wounded. A brutal strike on a nine-story apartment building in Kyiv killed one person and injured seven, including two children. The Russians carried out large-scale attacks on Mykolaiv overnight and throughout the morning. Tragically, two people were killed and seven others wounded. My condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed. Right now, it is important for all partners to focus as much as possible and work on the relevant steps toward de-escalation and an end to the killing. We discussed this both with the U.S. President’s team and with European representatives.
