The issue is, you lose nails, and you can hear the clack clack clack of the nails and it's often not from pressing the keys but hitting the black keys and you change positions. I def don't play as well with long nails.

My piano teacher years ago would have handed me a nail file if my nails clicked on the keys like that. Its a distracting sound from the otherwise beautiful playing.
