If I caught a glimpse of a chaplain and casualty assistance officer in our housing area, I’d start shaking and praying they wouldn’t come to my door or to the door of the other families whose soldiers were deployed. Just like some people aren’t cut out to be soldiers, some people aren’t cut out to be a military spouse. Sharing such thoughts and feelings publicly, which are a distraction at best and completely demoralizing at worst, will not provide aid or comfort to anyone but the enemy.

Imagine that, war is real and not played with Monopoly money! I am a retired Marine COMBAT ENGINEER and have no issue with what he said! Because you want to know why? Because when we are training to go to war, we are told by our own command that there’s a chance someone to your left or your right isn’t coming back same time you do. And to make sure the we take our training seriously. Even though we prepare not to lose anyone, and pray that we don’t. It still don’t change the fact that the reality is just that. You just hope it isn’t you when it happens. And when it happens it’s next man up to complete the mission at hand and then you honor the fallen afterwards. I have 2 combat deployments under by belt to Iraq, so I have been in those meetings where we are told this very thing. I have also conducted training simulating KIA’s and practicing your immediate actions in case it does happen. You prepare for the absolute worst and hope for the best when training for war. So when the worst does happen (KIA), you know why to do.
