NEW: Man Wanted for Domestic Dispute at IHOP Throws Officer Off Semi, Breaks Leg, Leads to Akron OIS Jeffrey Latson, 34, was accused of confronting his ex-girlfriend at an IHOP and threatening her in front of the entire restaurant. Latson refused to comply with officers and drove off to a nearby Walmart parking lot. Officers then tried to remove him from the truck. A Springfield Township officer was thrown from the cab, suffering a broken leg and a concussion. Thirty minutes later, Akron PD located the semi in a parking lot and attempted to make a stop. Latson fled. He led officers through multiple communities into Akron, striking several vehicles, including police cruisers. As the truck continued moving through a parking lot, two Akron officers and a sheriff’s deputy fired their weapons, striking Latson. Latson was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Latson faces four charges with the Springfield Township Police and two additional charges with the Akron Police.

Officers in Weed, California, pulled over a driver after multiple driving infractions and requested a K9 unit for a narcotics investigation. The K9 then alerted the officers about a car stereo system the suspect had in the backseat of his car. Officers inspected the suspicious stereo that was not connected to the car and found what they described as a substantial amount of methamphetamines inside the stereo. Officers then approached the suspect, who was seated in the front seat of the patrol car, and the suspect drew a firearm from his waistband. Officers began firing and taking cover behind nearby trees. The suspect was shot, and officers performed medical treatment before he was transferred to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Lara Bynum recorded the incident in Gatlinburg, where a bear “chased” people in the busy parking lot. "I was very nervous for all of the people running through the parking lot… Especially the guy in the orange outfit because he was not getting in the van with the rest of his group. He kept trying to take a picture of the bear up close." Bynum said the bear cleared through the parking lot and crossed the street to get a drink from the nearby river.
