@catoralexandra Fines needed! Is this a police investigation? How can 100+ trees be felled without anyone noticing or intervening? If people were there they should have felt justified in standing under trees. Report to police as a wildlife crime! I have done recently and they took it seriously.

@catoralexandra It's a disgrace. I bet the developer hired someone and paid them handsomely to do this. Knowing the consequences will be minimal. Laws need to change. Nothing should be allowed to be built here. Trees should have to be replanted, at the developers' cost, and a huge fine needed.

NEW: Arab Dearborn Heights businessman Sam Hussein and a local tree farmer team up to cover the cost of a $10,000 Christmas tree, which now stands in front of city hall. The men decided to take action after the yearly tradition was almost ruined. The tree order, which was placed by the previous administration, had delays and was not going to make it in time for a tree lighting ceremony this week. That is when Huff's Tree Farm and Hussein teamed up to help. "I thought it was the right thing to do given the circumstances. They had a tree-lighting ceremony set up for this Friday and they were really on a time crunch and this is our way of giving back," Hussein said. "I feel a good sense of pride being able to help the community, help our tree farm and kind of bring people together during this special time of year," Huff said.

Today at the Eko Amore Gardens in Lekki, we marked the 2026 Tree Planting Day with a powerful demonstration of our collective commitment to a greener and more climate resilient Lagos. I had the honour of welcoming His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu , ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, along with the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, our Tree Champions, and community leaders. The theme for this year, “Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility,” speaks directly to the fact that environmental stewardship is a duty we all share. Tree planting is not a ceremonial event, it is a strategic environmental intervention and one of the simplest, most effective nature based solutions to combat extreme weather, flooding, biodiversity loss, and rising temperatures. The Governor charged all Lagosians to not only plant trees but to nurture them to maturity, and he set a clear target of 20,000 trees for this year. As of June 30, we had already planted 13,401 trees representing 67 percent of that target, and a new planting season has now commenced across all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, running throughout the rainy season until October. I am pleased to announce that every LGA and LCDA Chairman has been designated as a Tree Custodian, responsible for nurturing and monitoring the trees planted in their jurisdictions for a minimum of 12 months to ensure survival. The Governor also unveiled the 20 Lagos Tree Champions, outstanding individuals and organisations whose contributions are advancing the greening of our State. I urge every resident to obtain free tree seedlings from LASPARK’s Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency - LASPARK nurseries, plant in your homes, schools, offices and communities, and nurture them. Tragic news confirmed. Kentucky State Police and local outlets report that two US Bank employees were fatally shot during a robbery at the branch on Chestnut Street in Berea around 2 p.m. today. The suspect, described as a masked man who entered the bank, fled on foot and remains at large. Law enforcement, including KSP, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Berea Police, U.S. Marshals, ATF, and FBI, are actively searching the area. Schools in the vicinity went on soft lockdown as a precaution, and businesses were advised to shelter in place earlier. In Congress-ruled Karnataka, Hindus are unable to celebrate their festivals peacefully — instead, they face police brutality. The Maddur incident is shocking and highly condemnable. Such brazen acts of violence are the direct result of Congress’ dangerous appeasement politics, which has emboldened miscreants and broken the law-and-order system. Today, no one feels safe in Karnataka — except one community. Worse still, instead of acting against violent elements, the police — who are meant to protect citizens — are being directed to lathi-charge peaceful protestors. I strongly condemn this. Today, a local grandmother says she saw a different man on his own return to the park for the second day in a row. According to her account, he walked past other empty benches and chose to lie on a bench close to where children were playing, despite having no children with him. She challenged his presence. Parents and grandparents have every right to remain vigilant around places where children gather. If you witness behaviour that genuinely concerns you, report it to Police Scotland and continue looking out for one another. Over 500 mature and heritage trees - banyans, tamarinds, peepals and old-growth giants are again under threat because of a fresh push to widen the road from 36 m to 45 m. These trees are not “obstacles.” They are living infrastructure. They cool our city, anchor its biodiversity, protect its micro-climate, and hold centuries of history in their roots. Mature trees cannot be “replaced” by saplings, and transplanting them has already proven to be fatal in earlier phases across Pune. The December 2023 court directions had clearly asked authorities to follow a sustainable mobility plan and avoid unnecessary tree felling. Yet the same project is being revived, risking another wave of irreversible ecological damage. Instead of widening roads for more private vehicles, Pune needs the opposite: • Better metro ridership, • Reliable bus frequency, • Safe footpaths and cycling tracks, • Efficient last-mile connectivity, • And maintainance of the existing road and flyover and Metro Line 3 infrastructure. We, the citizens, demand: 🍀Immediate cancellation of the proposed Phase-2 road widening on Ganeshkhind Road. High school students in Quakertown, PA say they were violently assaulted by plainclothes police after staging a peaceful walkout against ICE. Administrators from the Quakertown Community School District reportedly tried to shut the protest down over “safety concerns,” then called police on the students who participated. Students say a man jumped out of an unmarked car in plain clothes, and many believed they were being attacked by a counter-protester, not a police officer. Eyewitnesses report that it was Police Chief Scott McElree who was plainclothes and was seen choking a female student on the ground during the arrests. At a weekend press conference, one parent said her daughter was “deliberately sought after,” thrown to the ground, and choked, while another said she still has not been able to speak with her child since the arrest and fears for her safety. Now parents, teachers, and community members are demanding the release of body camera footage and incident reports, and calling for all detained students to be released.

This young man setups locations every week to help feed the needy. He raises money and awareness on social media and in turn he uses it to help the less fortunate, he does this all the time, it is his calling. On this day, someone had called the police to report him blocking the street. The police arrive and tell him he needs to immediately leave and setup elsewhere. As much as I support helping others, I have to side with the cops on this one. Having people wait in the line in the middle of an active residential street isn’t safe. Maybe he couldn’t have setup in a park or a parking lot even. So are we all in agreement that for the wrong reason, the officer was right in this case?
