Depends on the internship. My undergraduate internship was unpaid. Looking back, I was not producing any real capital for the organization, just getting to see how things worked while doing menial tasks, learning why the little details mattered. Companies don't need interns; they use internships as a recruiting tool to mitigate the risk of bad hires. Bad hires cost money in recruiting and training. If you don't like the internship, don't accept it and seek one elsewhere. If you think you would be a catch for the organization and want to know if it fits you, hang around and find out.
