Should President Trump terminate the H-1B visa program? As an immigration attorney who advocates for an America-First approach—yes, I know how rare that is—I think Trump should do it for three reasons: 1. Displacement of American Workers The H1B program allows companies to lay off American workers and replace... them with foreign workers who are often paid less, prioritizing cost savings over U.S. job security. This undermines the claim that H-1B visas are used only when qualified American workers are unavailable. For example, Microsoft—which is making record profits these days—recently laid off over 15,000 American workers, including software engineers and IT staff, while simultaneously filing over 14,000 H1B visa petitions. Reports indicate that many of these visas were for roles in the same locations and job categories as the laid-off workers, suggesting direct replacement. 2. Wage Suppression and Exploitation The H1B visa program enables companies to hire foreign workers at lower wages, suppressing salaries for American workers and exploiting H-1B workers who are tied to their employer-sponsored visas. This creates a race-to-the-bottom effect on wages in tech and other industries. H-1B workers also face exploitation because they risk deportation if terminated, with only a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsor. 3. Abuse by Outsourcing Firms Outsourcing firms, particularly Indian IT companies, exploit the H1B program by securing a disproportionate share of visas to supply low-cost labor, often for non-specialized roles. These firms engage in practices like filing visas for nonexistent jobs or “benching” workers, undermining the program’s purpose of addressing genuine skill shortages. The H1B (+H4EAD) should be terminated in full. America does not have a skills shortage in 2025. We have a surge of displaced American-born workers. We must be a self sufficient nation & not allow human trafficking through visa exploitation to undercut or block skilled Americans.

Yes but he also needs to csncel the F1 visa, it brings in 100's of thousands students each year who end up taking almost all STEM jobs via OPT from American graduates. It is a disgrace & betrayal to American students by greedy universities.

There needs to be very limited H1B visa slots, and requestors need to compete against each other for who gets the visa. A few best of the best, and the rest need to improve themselves.

I work in tech and have to “freelance” because of H-1B. Tech companies don’t have to hire Americans and pay fair wages. I’ve been in tech for over 20 years and it is impossible to get a job at any of these companies as an American and especially as a white male. There are some very exceptional H-1B recipients, but, the majority could easily be replaced with an American worker. Americans who work in Tech are underpaid and under employed. This should be bi partisan agreement. Better wages from big tech and careers for Americans in America.

I fully agree. I’m in what should be the tech capital of the world and jobs are few and far between for people at my level. Meanwhile we have too many foreign workers to even count. It’s completely lopsided.

H-1B employees should be laid off first at an absolute minimum. That said, I'm in favor of ending basically all visa work programs. If you want someone from another country, hire them in that country. However, even that should have an associated cost.

But H1b were also laid off too, all those 15k are not all “Americans”. It’s a combination of Americans, Green card holders, H1b and OPT. A lot of folks on visas have returned back to their home countries. Why not look into the practices of these companies who can just fire during record profits? There should be rules against companies who laid off h1bs wanting to hire h1b. Simple.

Yes. It's deeper than this. There should be a halt on all immigration Until we don't have debt, Americans all have jobs, our cities are free of homeless, and crime is at a low, then, we can consider how generous we'd like to be to the rest of the world. This isn't new, it was done for an extensive period in the past to ensure assimilation. You mentioned the race...were at the bottom by American standards.

I’m really not sure. I don’t know much about them. It seems as though they should though. Aruba has a practice where companies MUST hire Dutch National citizens before anyone else. Seems America should do this as well

Disney in Florida fired 63 IT workers and replaced them with H1B. The workers had to train them or no severance. Universal missed a golden opportunity to kneecap Disney by hiring them the day the HIB's got hired.

Agree. Additionally, with many companies offshoring - Americans are losing jobs to those offshore workers also. We do not need to bring anyone here to work, there are plenty if US tech workers whose job went overseas. It ALL should be illegal. What protection does a US consumer have if their information is offshore? ZERO

H-1B visa holders should be banned from holding manager positions with direct reports and from HR roles. Currently they determine bonuses, hiring, and terminations for citizens. This is NOT right. Please bring attention to these details.

@Thorson777 The worst part is the chain migration, every worker has an extended family and everyone is coming. These are big families, we’re not importing workers per se, we’re importing large families, and everything goes exponential when the associated families also come.
