Simulating entry… Using our LAVA software, Ames engineers performed simulations of a conceptual Mars spacecraft during entry. Here, the vehicle travels at supersonic speed (Mach 2.4) and uses retro-propulsion to decelerate further.

The animation depicts temperature, with purple representing lower and yellow higher temperatures. Simulations like this help researchers develop best practices to yield reliable, accurate predictions for aerodynamic drag throughout the spacecraft's possible entry, descent, and landing trajectories.

Firing rockets forward at Mach 2.4 is a wild engineering challenge. 🚀 The physics inside that LAVA simulation are incredible!

There are pockets where the yellowish part curls towards the vehicle centre of symmetry axle (parallel with the direction) and they are rotating as if there wouldn't be any external forcing, the pressure created by the 2.4 Mach velocity, on the system.

Oh please, you are 5% ready for deep space travel, here is the other 95%. all NASA bottlenecks of 30 years beaten, "all" there is even a separate journal with NASA Scalps you can download. All double AI vetted for physics as build now

Remember not to get your pound-seconds and newton=seconds mixed up this time.

Why not use this on every entry? First thing I noticed was the gas shield it creates out front. Seems like a cheap extra insurance layer that's simple to add?

wouldnt re-entry plasma reach into the thruster bay things? either way, great but many questions
