Since COVID, no actor has consistently given me better in-theater viewing experiences than Robert Pattinson. It’s not just that he’s prolific (he’s had a new film in theaters nearly every 6 months), it’s that the quality of his work is both outstanding & totally unpredictable.

Widows is a damn good film that was totally overlooked by The Academy. I’ve been thinking about this film more lately because it’s one of Robert Duvall’s final films. I love this entire cast. Every actor in this film is excellent. And it’s a great Chicago movie. It deserved more.

Denzel Washington’s Oscar-nominated performance in Flight has to be at the top of the list when ranking Denzel’s best work. Had he not run into Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln, Denzel would’ve undeniably won a second Oscar for Best Actor. Denzel is unhinged here- he’s just totally off the rails & his performance has so much range. This guy is just totally unpredictable as an actor & I cannot get enough. I love Flight.

He’s not usually the face of a film or show, but Edgerton’s been the backbone of countless projects that I enjoy. He’s staring in a new film called Train Dreams in which he’s getting a lot of Oscar buzz. I’m happy for him. He deserves this moment.

Benny Safdie & Robert Pattinson were two stand-out actors in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey & it’s the perfect opportunity for me to remind you all that Safdie & Pattinson starred in the 2017 film Good Time (directed by the Safdie Brothers), which is a breathtaking slice of Cinema. I cannot say enough positive things about this movie- I think it’s a little better than Uncut Gems.

The older I get, the stronger I feel that Casino is a better film than Goodfellas. I think a big reason for that is Robert De Niro. De Niro is brilliant in both films but he’s underutilized in Goodfellas. In Casino, that’s not the case- Bob is given the keys to the car & he drives the shit out of it. I think Casino is the best De Niro-Scorsese collaboration behind Taxi Driver.
