Trump’s Insider Trading Shows Corruption Is Not Exclusive to Africa Africans have been lied to for years that corruption is somehow an African trait, when in reality, the West operates corruption at a scale far beyond what it condemns on the continent. The Donald Trump insider trading allegations show that the same people who lecture Africa on governance and anti-corruption are often deeply implicated in profiteering, manipulation, and abuse of power themselves. The point is not to excuse corruption anywhere but to strip away the hypocrisy and reject the dangerous idea that Africans are uniquely prone to moral failure. The point of public service is to serve the public — not enriching yourself. Trump’s corrupt crony capitalism can’t be defended or ignored. The price for the rest of us is unaffordable. His family is $4 billion richer since the day he took office. He put a “For Sale” sign up on the White House Lawn, and everything from insider trades to pardons to crypto scams are on offer. Trump’s family and cronies are better off while the rest of the country is struggling, and the voters are going to have their say in November. Mark it.

The corporations bankrolling Trump’s $400 million White House ballroom have received more than $50 billion in new or expanded federal contracts in the six months since they wrote those checks. Of 27 known donors, 16 had federal enforcement actions suspended, dropped, or scaled back. And the White House still will not say how much each donor gave. That is not a healthy democracy. That is pay-to-play running out of the People’s House. It is why I helped launch the End Corruption Caucus. I take no corporate PAC money and I do not trade stocks, because public office should never be a personal cash machine.

The presidential pardon system is broken. Right now, there are no meaningful checks on the President’s pardon power. That makes it ripe for abuse, and it’s a threat to the rule of law. That’s why I support a constitutional amendment to put commonsense limits in place: no self-pardons, no pardons for family, administration officials, or campaign staff, and no pardons for anyone whose crimes were committed to benefit the President or those closest to them — or carried out at a President’s direction. It is time to protect the Constitution and the rule of law with common sense limits that restore public trust.
