It was encouraging to see Oregon’s Supreme Court focused on the original intent of Oregon’s right to bear arms. This was a large improvement from the questions that were asked at the Court of Appeals level. “The people shall have the right to bear arms for the defence (sic) of themselves, and the State, but the Military shall be kept in strict subordination to the civil power[.]” Oregon Constitution Article I, Section 27.

We have always been the leader when it comes to liberty. 206 years later, in 1982, a supermajority of Granite Staters approved article 2-a of the Constitution. It reads that “all persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, their property, and the state.” Right now, UNH and other public universities are infringing on the self defense rights of law abiding college students.

Meaning: Before people support their own life and their family, they must make a forced contribution to the State. Man is not a dependent of the State. Man is not created by the State. Man is not sustained by the State. Man does not have his salvation or rights from the State. God has not given government the rights over innocent people’s life, liberty, or property. Therefore, no institution or person shall violate these rights over-against an innocent person. Property and income belong first to individuals, not to the State.
