Since when was joining toastmasters necessary to be eligible for the Military? I asked the Defence Department for the second time in 12 months why they are making it so hard for young adults to join the military. I get a steady flow of correspondence from concerned parents who... are dismayed that their children are not accepted into the military. Most of these parents are veterans who can’t believe the reasons their children are being knocked back. One young man was told he should join toastmasters to work on his communication. Someone’s ability to communicate is generally a function of their confidence is it not? Being told they aren’t good enough won’t help their communication skills. It is simply not acceptable for our Defence force to be knocking back recruits when they have a hiring shortage. As a former service member, I can tell you there is nothing more frustrating than being made to babysit an uneducated new recruit that is only there to fill the contracted recruitment agency’s numbers and coffers. I’ve had mates that have been instructors at Navy’s recruit school and they just not allowed to filter out the students that fail. Having a high standard is paramount to a strong ADF.

I am hearing from many military families whose children are being delayed or knocked back. The issue doesn’t seem to be around standards but process and DEI ideology.

They don't want Australians defending Australia which tells you everything you need to know about who is in charge of the Australian military.

Im starting to think that all people on unemoloyment benefits after a while, who are able bodied, should undergo some form military training, which can teach them skills and discipline, and be ready to serve when time comes.

The armed forces should be the the easiest place to get in, as long as you can pass a medical and a basic fitness test they can be taught the rest.

There’s a young healthy lad in my town, it’s taking months for him to get into the army, it’s crazy how much bs he is going through for basic admission into the ADF… too many beta bureaucracy in the way

I watched the adf response. First issue. Adecco. 2nd issue Adecco. The adf simply needs to greatly expand its reserves and draw from them as specific roles arise. Get them in , then choose. Recruiting 101.
