Six immigrant workers are presumed dead after Tuesday's bridge collapse in Baltimore. Journalist Maximillian Alvarez says the disaster shows the crucial role of immigrants in many dangerous jobs. "We are not coming to this country to ruin it," he says. "We're workers just like you."

My son is a hard working Construction worker who also worked on bridges and is a member of the Carpenters Union. Sadly these Companies are hiring migrants because they are cheap labor and do not have Union protection. My son stated to me that when he worked on bridges they had a harness and steeled toed boots and hard hats but the day laborers were not required to have protective gear. He said they had many needless deaths of these workers. Think about that when making negative statements about American Workers. They are hiring them for the same reason they have them in the fields. I don't blame the workers it is the Corporate Capitalist who line their pockets at the expense of the workers. I do blame the media for covering for these billion dollar Corporations!

@maximillian_alv Scapegoating immigrants is not really about their legal status. It’s about generating and manipulating anger and fear. People today are doing the same thing that was done to some groups of European immigrants in the past. And for the same reasons.

@maximillian_alv Were these legal immigrants with work visas or were they, and their employer, breaking federal & state labor laws?

@maximillian_alv Good pt. Migrant workers aren't coming here to destroy this country. Instead they are disproportionately working low paid, dangerous, grueling, and unhealthy jobs that enable many of the goods and services we rely on.

@krystalball @maximillian_alv If they are here legally they are welcomed with open arms. Stop the nonsense.

@krystalball @maximillian_alv No problem with immigrants, it’s the illegal immigrants…

@maximillian_alv It's sad that Elon Musk doesn't share your sentiments.

@maximillian_alv Can you add “Hispanic workers” so the listeners can be more educated about their horrible working situation and why they left their native countries?

@maximillian_alv @elonmusk This message is for you and your X followers 🤢
