Skiff is a new, small tool for deploying static marketing sites using Kamal. Built on #NoBuild ideas, stone-age tools like Server Side Includes, and running with nginx. We use it to run and already. Enjoy!

If you’re looking for bronze-age tools that have Erb, Rails helpers, ActiveSupport, and everything you love about Rails check out You can embed it in a Rails app (because it is a Rails app!) or compile the site to static HTML and deploy with skiff. 😎 ✌️

How about a name change?

Calling it “Skiff” as in email and office product @skiffprivacy ? That’s a sure way to create confusion.

No, no, no. You're confused, server side rendering is a NEW thing the kids are into these days.

This is great. TIL about SSI. What if you can just generate html from markdown files with a layout template? That can be easier than this and still no transpiling, no server needed even… I’m building that. Template is also html with mustache and directly openable by browser.

This is really nice!

Probably works for the smallest 5% of real marketing pages out there, but you'll soon be needing more features. I'll rather go for #Hugo, #Jekyll or a static site generator that no-coders (real marketeers!) can work on, and run the app on a sub domain.

Yes, we always strive to be in the top 5% of efficiency, simplicity, and use of constraints. No doubt the average marketing site is so loaded with overcomplicated junk that SSI seems like a pipe dream. To the detriment of users and developers alike 😄

#nobuild sounds cool. Simple HTML? Sign me up. But you lost me with Docker. Do I really need to ship an image for a static marketing site? @astrodotbuild deploys to Cloudflare or Vercel (1-2 min) > Docker config and use hell. What am I missing?

Thanks for another open-source gift!
