Slavery was not legally permitted during apartheid. It had already been abolished in South Africa in 1834 when the British ended the practice across their empire. That was over 100 years before the apartheid government came into power in 1948. However, even though slavery was no longer on the...

ORANIA: THE WHITES-ONLY TOWN IN SOUTH AFRICA In 2024, South Africans were among the more than 3-billion people who went to the polls in more than 60 countries in national elections. For South Africa, the elections had historical significance - they came at a time when the country was marking three decades since the end of apartheid. When apartheid ended in 1994, many Black South Africans had high expectations about what the future held for them after centuries of social and economic exclusion. Decades later, the African National Congress (ANC), which has governed the country since 1994, is facing accusations of not doing enough to dismantle apartheid-era socio-economic structures and injustices. Nothing exemplifies this better than the existence of Orania, a Whites-only town in the country's Northern Cape province. The town has been a source of tension since its establishment in the early '90s during the last days of apartheid. The town's founders and residents claim its purpose is to preserve the culture and identity of the Afrikaner people, White South Africans of mostly Dutch, French and German descent. However, many people think the town and its policy of not allowing non-White residents is nothing but a racist endeavour to maintain some vestiges of the apartheid system. The town's residents insist that its existence is protected by Article 235 of the South African constitution, which guarantees self-determination. However, many have argued that the cited part of the constitution does not, in fact, permit people of a particular religious or cultural group to live in a secluded place away from other South Africans. In 2000, the Northern Cape High Court adjourned 'sine die' (without a further hearing date) after Orania's proponents challenged attempts by the government to incorporate the town into the nearby municipal authority. African Stream was shown around Orania by some of the locals, who shared their opinions about their community with us. We'd love to hear yours as well in the replies.

Apartheid is not over, there is an ongoing black people genocide in South Africa๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ’”. In recent times, whites have been putting black people in caskets as seen on the video and allegedly burying them alive, they have murdered black women and fed them to pigs to eat, they run over black children with their cars breaking their legs, there has also been reports of white farmers forcing their black workers to murder their spouses for insurance financial benefits and then get the black people arrested and denying having hired them for the murder cases, painting them as criminals partaking in a none existing white genocide. L White people in South Africa have been seen physically attacking black people in public areas with swimming pools for being black, saying they are not allowed in their areas just like they did during apartheid before 1994. The whites that worship apartheid idols have moved to create their own little town called Orania, where black people are not allowed to live, just like during apartheid, they have statues of their apartheid idols in Orania and they are using their own flag trying to separate themselves from South Africa while geographically still in South Africa. All these are things the media don't want to talk about because the media is controlled by the same white people supporting white supremacy, racism and segregation. Don't be surprised if my account gets shadow banned or suspended after this tweet. This platform is owned by one of the biggest fans of apartheid. Please RT(Retweet) and spread the message.

For many years, South Africans have quoted Mugabeโ€™s speechโ€”where he said he would assist South Africa diplomatically and not militarilyโ€”to justify the perception that Zimbabwe did not help South Africa in its fight for independence. But this ignores key facts. Mugabe was already at war with the apartheid government in Mozambique and in Matebeleland when be made this speech. Additionally, its is also illogical to expect Mugabe to openly reveal military plans to his enemiesโ€”the apartheid regime and their Western alliesโ€”in the media, especially knowing that the ANC and its leaders were labelled terrorists by the U.S., U.K., and the broader Western world. Therefore, Mugabe could not publicly admit to assisting โ€œterroristsโ€ in armed operations against a sovereign state, as it would have been considered a breach of international law. This was despite the reality that he was already fighting two wars agaist the apartheid government in Matebeleland and Mozambique, after the apartheid government attacked Zimbabwe.

Our โ€˜international airportโ€™ had an in-depth interview with the British media in 1985. It was at the height of the apartheid state brutality and repression. He led a massive international campaign for comprehensive sanctions against the apartheid regime. The year 1985 marked a pivotal escalation in South Africaโ€™s anti-apartheid struggle, characterised by widespread mass protests, labor strikes, and intensified township resistance. By June, the UN Security Council urged member states to impose sanctions against the apartheid regime, precipitating a deepening political crisis. In response, PW Botha proclaimed a state of emergency to avert systemic collapse. The European Community and Commonwealth nations duly responded with economic sanctions. Until this moment, the US had extended unconditional political and economic backing to apartheid South Africa. It was only in 1986 under international pressure that the US imposed stricter economic measures against the apartheid regime. Winnie Mandela had been banished to Brandfort in the Free State. She defied the banning order and returned to Soweto to spearhead grassroots resistance against the regime. From 1985 onward, apartheid began to unravel. The state despite its attempts repression, it increasingly could not sustain its legitimacy and political stability. The real turning point came when FW de Klerk replaced PW Botha in 1989 and moved to open negotiations. In 1990, the ANC and other liberation organisations were unbanned, and Mandela was released from prison. Subsequent negotiations culminated in a transitional settlement wherein the enfeebled apartheid criminals ceded political power to the ANC while retaining de facto dominance over the economy. This negotiated criminal structure still persists today. Economic power remains concentrated among historical beneficiaries of the apartheid regime. Our economic liberation was sold at the negotiations table. Winnie Madikizela-Mandela did say that she felt betrayed. Chris Hani too opposed the negotiations and was murdered.

AMERICANS TAUGHT DISTORTED HISTORY OF SLAVERY Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, it remains a stubborn myth that the North of the US was not involved in slavery. The prevailing narrative is that slavery was only deeply entrenched in the societal fabric of the South. In this clip, speaking in support of H.R. 40, a bill proposing a commission to study reparations for slavery, filmmaker Katrina Browne, a Philadelphia native, explains how the North was complicit in slavery. Along with nine relatives, Browne retraced her own family journey, discovering that they were the largest slave-trading family in US history - transporting over 12,000 Africans to the Americas in chains. She recounts that learning the history of her Rhode-Island ancestors led to the realisation that the only reason most Americans are ignorant of the Northโ€™s slave history is because Americans are taught a distorted version of history. Browne spotlights facts that contradict the idea that the North had little involvement, including the fact that Rhode Island, where her family roots lie, sent more ships to Africa in the European slave trade than any other state in the slave business, which spanned across centuries. A wide array of industries in the North profited as a result - from shipping to finance - meaning that slavery was largely responsible for the economic rise of the US as a whole. Browne ended by stating that an understanding of true history should come with acceptance of the realities of what Black people were subjected to at the hands of White enslavers. She said that what Black people want is true understanding and repair, which must encompass meaningful solutions such as reparations to rectify the injustices, not revenge. Video Credit:

Nelson Mandela On Why He Supported Gaddafi And Castro In 1948, a right-wing party rose to power in South Africa, led by the countryโ€™s white minority. What followed was a decades-long period of systemic violence against South Africa's black majority. This period, known as apartheid, ended in 1994 with the victory of the revolutionary African National Congress (ANC) party, and the election of its 27-years imprisoned activist Nelson Mandela (1918 - 2013) as South Africaโ€™s first freely-elected president. During the decades of struggle, the ANC had sought help from the international community. The โ€œfreeโ€ nations of the West would not help. The United States and Britain would not help. Only โ€œundemocraticโ€ nations like Libya, Cuba and Palestine answered the call, providing military, medical and financial assistance to the anti-apartheid forces. In this interview with PBS News in the year of his release from prison, Nelson Mandela defends his support of Cuban leader Fidel Castro and Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in the face of allegations of โ€œhuman rights abusesโ€ leveled against the governments of both leaders by the West - the same West which for so long had so little to say about the very real human rights abuses perpetrated by the apartheid government, and which actively supported apartheid.
