Tom Holland on why 'Fright Night' (1985) succeeded: “I was lucky enough to pull off 'Fright Night' (1985), which was sort of amazing because no one wanted anything to do with vampires at the time,” [Holland noting the “huge failure” of 1979’s Dracula starring Frank Langella.] And then George Hamilton spoofed it in Love at First Bite, and if you go into farce, it means the genre is dead. It means that it’s exhausted itself, and that’s where we were the moment that I did 'Fright Night'. At the time, movies didn’t last, certainly horror movies didn’t last. In fact the horror genre at that time was sort of the red-headed stepchild of Hollywood, [Holland continues, recalling the genre’s “low repute” due to] sequelizing summer camp, and Halloween, and April the first, whatever it was. If I say so myself, the script was pretty good. And I got very, very lucky and it found a home [at Columbia Pictures] The story of 'Fright Night' was very specific. It’s about a teenage horror movie fan who becomes convinced the neighbor next door is a vampire. OK? That was me. And I was writing about the movies that I loved when I was 15, 16, 17, and they were the AIP and Hammer Horror films, which starred Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Vincent Price... that’s how you get Peter Vincent, the horror movie host, And so I was writing about myself and my growing up. And I thought the story was so strong and had such human values, especially in the person of Peter Vincent, the Roddy McDowall character... the story was strong, and the vampires were right for that." As the news, rumors and speculations about possible presidential meetings and other developments are coming in large numbers, I wanted to post this. Ukrainians are often asked: why don't you just accept Russia's conditions and end the war? This is a small glimpse into why that is deadly for Ukraine. We remember Bucha, Izium, Kherson and other Ukrainian cities that have been under Russian occupation. Everywhere, civilians were tortured, murdered, imprisoned, displaced. Russia doesn't follow rhe rules of war and the Geneva conventions. It comducts genocide. In this previously unseen surveillance footage, 70-year-old Bucha resident Volodymyr Rubailo is executed by Russian soldiers on Yablunska Street in Bucha, Kyiv region, on March 4, 2022. The videos clearly show Russian troops wounding Volodymyr Rubailo with the first shot. Then, as the unarmed civilian was barely standing, they deliberately shot him in the head, killing him. Shortly after, Russian soldiers began looting a nearby supermarket, while Volodymyr's body remained lying on the ground. They smashed the glass and entered the supermarket, stuffing stolen goods into baskets and bags, and loading them onto armored vehicles. To carry off even more, some Russian soldiers filled shopping carts and pushed them down the street toward recently seized homes of Bucha residents. The murder of Volodymyr Rubailo may have been committed by Russian paratroopers from the 234th Air Assault Regiment from Pskov - specifically, a group led by Sergeant Vladimir Borzunov. According to an investigation by Radio Liberty, exactly his unit was stationed at the position from which, according to Ukrainian ballistic experts, the shot at the civilian was fired. In a phone call with a Radio Liberty correspondent, Sergeant Borzunov confirmed that Russian troops were indeed responsible for Rubailo’s killing, but denied any personal involvement, as well as that of the soldiers under his command. When I was younger I liked Jim will fix it, I liked Gary Glitter and I liked Rolf Harris, that was until I found out what they’d been up to! The charges were authorized in January 2024, (the money arrives 2025, why take it, the rape allegations are well Known ) prompting the release of European Arrest Warrants for the Tate brothers, but were not publicly confirmed by the service until Wednesday. Tommy says that Lauren Southern is lying about being violently raped and strangled by Tate (something women have consistently been saying Tate did to them for the past decade). He says that he saw her leave a hotel room with Tate the next morning kissing him. Two other men, Caolan Robertson and George Llewelyn, went on this trip to Bucharest alongside Robinson and Southern. The New York Times says both of them reiterated Southern's version of events - that she told them in a taxi the next morning that Tate had violently assaulted her. Robertson says that he noticed marks on her neck. I actually think what the left is doing is degrading social trust by trying to create it from on high. A lot of great things that we do come from high levels of social trust, but you've got to reestablish it organically. You can't try to force it on people."
