Smash Ultimate is getting a native PC port no emulator required. The open-source project ssbu-recomp uses static recompilation to turn Super Smash Bros. Ultimate into a native Windows program. - Runs full 1v1 matches at 59–60 FPS - Vulkan renderer with OpenGL fallback - AI-assisted development using Claude -... show more

if yall complain about it being ai, then you are stuck in circular reasononing. ai recomps are basically 3d printing existing art. why use a robot to 3d print it when you can just mold it with your hands? "because it gets repeatitive and takes a lot of work?" why use ai to decompile and recompile games when you can just code it yourself? "because it gets repeatitive and takes a lot of work?" both use robots that recreate existing art.

Spot on. Using AI as an accelerator for tedious assembly-to-C++ decomp mapping isn't cutting cornersit's just smart tooling that saves thousands of hours of manual labor

@TheDustyVamp1re Idiot

@mdaman010 give a better argument than just "idot"

@mdaman010 vibe is dumb

@mdaman010 that's circular. vibe + manual coding is goated tbh.

@isitslopcode this is an easy one 😭

honestly amazed Smash Ultimate hasn't been recompiled already... but that's awesome someone's working on it.

Switch architecture is massive compared to N64/Zelda decomps, which is why AI tooling like Claude helping speed up the boilerplate decomp process is such a game changer here.

aren't switches just redesigned android tablets from 2015? there's a couple of beloved PS4 titles that have already gotten recompiled, but i know there's tons of rabid SSBU fans that would love it on PC, so that's where the surprise comes from.

Add online + no delay

Rollback netcode is already on the roadmap, and removing that built-in native delay is the ultimate goal! 🎯

That’s good! Can you make it that it also auto gives us all characters unlocked? It would be very tedious to have to unlock them all again

they got 60fps out of a smash recomp already, thats actually wild

Right? Static recompilation does wonders compared to running a heavy emulator layer. Direct Vulkan calls make all the difference

I KNEW SOMEONE WAS GONNA DO IT. ITS TIME!!!!!!!

The time has finally come! Native PC performance is about to change everything 🔥

Is the native input delay going to be removed too👀

That's the big advantage of a native port! Without the Switch's OS overhead and emulator translation layers, bypassing that built-in ~6 frames of input delay is very realistic once timing logic is decoupled.

Ayyyye

It likely is using an emulator as a wrapper of sorts. Or at the very least using code from a Switch emulator and make it look like it's "native" when it's not really

slop

Smash WHAT!!!???

Smash Ultimate on native PC, no emulator needed haha!

Will this be compatible with mods that already exist?

Not right out of the box with standard Switch ARCropolis mods, but since movesets and scripts are exposed directly in C++, porting or making custom PC mods will actually be way easier long-term.

"AI-assisted development"

Se vienen personajes nativos 🙏

With fighter scripts exposed in C++, custom characters are going to go crazy!

Amén

Who's your lil buddy, hmm?

Finally we can mod ult to be more melee-like, a new "project M" will come out of this, and I'm all up for it

Its vibe coded 🤮

Ew

Aye I'd yall remove that 9 frame offline delay, I might hop back on

@PixelCNinja

OMG!!!!!!! NOW THE REAL SMASH BATTLE WILL BEGIN WITH THE MODS!!!

The modding scene is about to enter an entirely new era once this matures 🚀

vibe coded ai slop most definitely

Slop

Can someone do this for Bayonetta 3 and totk already?

This would legit be the greatest thing ever 👀

my concern is the quality difference between claude code and real code are there proper quality checks? i dont know enough unfortunately but i would love for this to be done propery

Rollback Hewdraw Remix

this one is crazy actually

This could quite literally save ultimate if rollback gets working. That and maybe an easy to use installer. (about as easy to set up as slippi let's say)

I need notified when this is fully functional.
