This isn't a Mouse - it's a Portal. I remain in my conviction that people in the City are semi-comatose, not noticing things around them. Hell, they don't even look at the sky. This seems crazy as we are hard-wired to notice things around us, to perceive and interpret clues and signals - this necessary for our hunter-gatherer ancestors to survive. The City is a great place for the reason that when you go to or view things 'off the beaten track' things reveal themselves - nature, secrets, and stories. Many of these things are actually in the open but under the radar of the city person. I realised years ago that when I'm down in the London Underground, if I look at the far track for a few minutes, a mouse going about its business is likely to appear. The far track means it is hidden from the people on the crowded platform. Just-wait-long-enough. Sure enough, I filmed for a few seconds and a furry critter appeared to order, like magic. When you open your eyes portals reveal themselves. They take you to another world. It seems even more magical when it's just you viewing it. A world within a world, for your privilege. For a few seconds, in this case, the people on the platform faded into the background and the wild and the oceanic appeared. These portals are the Perfect Moments I talk about.

Is your toddler suddenly throwing (or dropping) everything they get their hands on? Food, toys… you name it. You’re not alone. This week I’ve been introducing play schemas, 9 common patterns that can help to demystify your toddler’s seemingly random behaviors. And you guessed it: this is one. We call it the trajectory schema. If you take nothing else away from this post, let it be this: your little one doesn’t throw things because they are misbehaving or “bad.” Babies throw things because they are babies. And they are learning as they do so. Learning about cause and effect. Learning about gravity. Learning what (and practicing something new) they can do with their bodies. Learning hand-eye coordination. It’s a completely normal part of development. And the fascination won’t last forever. The real question is, how do you manage it? First, be proactive. Expect that anything your little one handles might reasonably be thrown or dropped. So choose wisely, avoiding items that are valuable or might pose a danger to them or others if they suddenly took flight. Second, depending on the age of your child, begin introducing some natural consequences. Put the toy/object away temporarily after it is thrown (if throwing it is dangerous or inappropriate). And involve your child in the subsequent clean-up. You can also redirect. Explain which things are and are not for throwing. Model the correct use of these objects. Finally, lean into it. Recognizing that young children are drawn to throwing, provide items that are safe and acceptable to throw. Soft toys. Socks. Balls. Might be time to give up on Bobcat Company . When our machine was in the shop, we had them replace the drive belt. First job out today, the drive belt fails. Machine’s now stranded on the customer’s property and completely immobile. We called it in and were told the earliest a tech could come out is next Tuesday. That’s a full week of a machine just sitting, dead in the water. Totally unacceptable and not a good sign of reliability. They charged us for a new belt and pulley, which we’ll now be installing ourselves tomorrow. And they tried to spin it like maybe we did something wrong. We didn’t. At the exact same time, our other machine starts spewing hydraulic fluid from the arm. No obvious cause. Our 2025 has been in the shop 5 times already. The 2019? Even more. I’d understand this stuff if we were slamming these things into trees or neglecting maintenance, but that’s not what’s happening. These are just mechanical issues that keep stacking up. All this is happening while we’re right at the finish line on buying a new T86. Honestly? I’m second guessing it. The guys in service and sales have been great, no complaints there, but the reliability just hasn’t been. We need a third machine, and we need it yesterday. Starting to look hard at the Takeuchi TL12 now. We’ll see what happens.
