So this is basically the "polite" way of saying disabled kids don't belong in school if they have too many bad days? Thinking of my high school bestie's autistic twin right now. Smartest person I ever met in so many ways, but she had one teacher tell her mom she didn't belong.

INCLUSION IS NOT EARNED. That's the whole point. People who have difficulty self-regulating are humans just like everyone else. The purpose of school is not just education, it's where we learn how to act in society, with people different from us.

I'm glad I don't have an autistic kid in Alberta. This doesn't teach them to self regulate. It teaches them not to so they can avoid the difficult environment that schools present them.

This is great news. I don’t know how we got to the point that kids who need help should be in regular classrooms. Years ago, like back in the 70’s, kids that needed one on one help or smaller classroom settings and so on, got that. If they it was possible for behavioral changes & learning at their grade level they were re integrated. Brilliant!

Stop calling her clueless. She knows exactly what she's doing. Things like inclusion will be how Marlaina weaponizes charter schools to take down the public system, while people are two steps behind, still howling with outrage over the 5% of kids in private schools.

Exclusion can be a factor in their regulation. In the case I’m intimately familiar with, the kid will seek attention no matter what, but can’t always differentiate between positive and negative attention. Shut those kids away and they don’t have a chance to succeed.

@notncalgary I spent most of my school life separated from the other kids in school, and it only made me a target for abuse from students and teachers. One of the main reasons I still hate institutional settings and paper work. Now I'm a severely mentally ill person with social anxiety.

We had a kid in our school who would have a temper tantrum throw desks, and the kids all had to leave the room for their safety instead of removing this kid from the classroom… seems like you’re empowering the little brat instead of dealing with his behaviour!

Education is a basic fundamental right. Seems this government forgot about that.

And, where, exactly, is the money for those students to have the one-on-one attention she thinks they need? It's already in the bank accounts of Sam Mraiche and other UCP donors, friends, and family members.
