Providence Police officers are deployed across the city supporting snow operations and helping ensure plows can move quickly and safely through every neighborhood. Our officers are actively enforcing the parking ban, assisting with disabled vehicles, and keeping travel lanes clear so DPW crews can do their work without delays. New York City has officially suspended alternate side parking until Sunday, a move intended to give frustrated drivers more time to dig their vehicles out from under heavy snow. However, for many residents, the gesture isn't enough, as massive snow mountains continue to block curbs and trap cars more than a week after the storm. While the Mayor Zohran Mamdani maintains that significant progress has been made in the removal efforts, residents like Troy, who frequently rents cars for work, feel the cleanup is moving far too slowly for a city that needs to stay mobile. I just left a briefing with important updates to share with you from the Executive on the ongoing snow emergency as we deal with freezing temperatures. While I appreciate the hard work of District workers, the government’s response has fallen far short of what DC residents deserve. I know many residents are understandably angry and disappointed over streets that still need to be cleared and sidewalks that are impassable. We need clear communication and better coordination. Here’s what you need to know: * New heavy equipment started being used last night for snow removal * Crews are prioritizing public safety buildings, 24/7 locations like shelters, government buildings * A lot of alleys will not be passable until next week * Residential trash/recycling/food waste collection is going to be very delayed due to conditions of alleys * DPW is working on ideas to get trash from alleys, including deploying leaf crews not on snow removal to assist * Tomorrow, we will have a better sense from meteorologists of the impacts of any potential weekend storm * Anticipate DCPS making a call about school tomorrow by 5 p.m. tonight Ongoing snow removal efforts: * 280 plows on DC streets with supervisors checking routes * 90 dump trucks picking up snow piles from corners and moving to RFK parking lots * 30 pieces of heavy equipment loading snow where snow is too high. I want to take a moment to give a huge shoutout to our Snow Team. This drone video captures our crews performing an echelon on Preston Highway- a coordinated snow-removal formation where multiple plows work side-by-side to clear several lanes at once and safely push snow off the roadway. Our Snow Team has been working around the clock, logging more than 125 hours by Tuesday afternoon alone. They’ve pushed through harsh conditions and long, demanding shifts to keep our dedicated snow routes clear and safe. This work is tough, critical, and often happens while the rest of the city is able to stay safely at home. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication, teamwork, and grit.

Hoping that I am not revealing top secret information, but I've long had the impression the Pentagon has more snow removal and road treatment equipment per square mile than just about anywhere else. Do they get their weather briefings from Military Intelligence, or do they just read Capital Weather Gang and watch our local TV weather folks like the rest of us? I have so many questions. With increased tow capacity in place, this parking ban will be strictly enforced to ensure our Department of Public Works can safely and efficiently clear snow. Please move your vehicles ahead of time, use approved off-street parking locations or park at the Convention Center and help us keep roadways accessible for plows and emergency responders. Severe weather continues to impact flight operations with 41cm of snow accumulation at Toronto Pearson as of 7 p.m. Air traffic management initiatives remain in effect to ensure the safe movement of aircraft. Crews continue snow clearing operations on runways, taxiways, and apron areas. We are working with our airline partners to support operations and advise passengers to check their flight status directly with their airline before travelling to the airport.
