So Catching has evolved right? In this video Mitch Garver is doing his pregame routine I guess. IDK! What I do know is that Mitch has thrown out (19%) of base stealers in his career. I played with Ivan Pudge Rodriguez IMO the best defensive catcher in MLB history!... show more

@Pudge_Rodriguez @MLB @RVGDag @TheKineticArm @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @wg22659 I was told later in my career , that throwing guys out to the analytics guys didn’t matter. Framing did , because it was 100 plus pitches that you can impacted the game compared to 2-3 bases stealing attempts

@Pudge_Rodriguez @MLB @RVGDag @TheKineticArm @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @wg22659 Pudge and Johnny bench would not have anywhere near those CS percentages with the current rules. You’re purposely ignoring the fact that base stealing is much easier in today’s game to fit your narrative 😂😂

@Pudge_Rodriguez @MLB @RVGDag @TheKineticArm @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @wg22659 I mean he's a backup catcher for a reason.

@Pudge_Rodriguez @MLB @RVGDag @TheKineticArm @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @wg22659 I also thought that setting a target for the pitcher was part of the job. I don’t get the glove down and up at pitch. It’s so weird…why reinvent over a century of something that’s worked well.

@Pudge_Rodriguez @MLB @RVGDag @TheKineticArm @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @wg22659 Compare their average pop times not their thrown out percentage. Pitchers don’t move fast to the plate anymore. Also why are we comparing Mitch Garver to the best catchers of all time?

@Pudge_Rodriguez @MLB @RVGDag @TheKineticArm @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @wg22659 Are you trying to tell me that Mitch Garver isn’t as good as a defensive catcher as Johnny Bench? I’m going to need some more data before you start making such outlandish claims.

@Pudge_Rodriguez @MLB @RVGDag @TheKineticArm @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @wg22659 A lot of these set ups start as a catcher's balk (entire body not within catcher's box).

@Pudge_Rodriguez @MLB @RVGDag @TheKineticArm @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @wg22659 Patrick Bailey has a very similar set up to Mitch Garver while also having elite framing, blocking, and one of the highest caught stealing % in baseball at 29%, while the league average is 21.6% (keep in mind the bases are bigger)

@Pudge_Rodriguez @MLB @RVGDag @TheKineticArm @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @wg22659 Who is going to tell him that the rules have changed a few years ago to heavily favor base stealers? Or that Mitch Garver is a backup catcher not as good as pudge? Or that Salvador Perez is one of the best catchers ever, who also was one of the first to do OKD? Anyone?

@Pudge_Rodriguez @MLB @RVGDag @TheKineticArm @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @wg22659 I wonder why a guy who has played a combined 50 games behind the plate the last 2 season could possibly have a lower caught stealing percentage than 2 of the greatest catchers of all time?
