I reported on Kenosha Kingfish - x OF Trey Swiderski (Logan Vols Baseball) in my most recent NWL Notebook, tonight he destroyed a baseball to his pull side for a 2-run homer that pulled his team within one run (an eventual 3-2 loss), it was the strong bodied slugger’s 1st HR of the summer

𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐓𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝚙𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚎𝚍 𝚋𝚢 True Pitch Mounds Saydel’s Brady Hicks (2027, Prep Baseball Uncommitted) already has an impressive pedigree. The now six-foot-five right-hander has already experienced the Junior Future Games (2023) and Super Sophomore Games (2024), and if all goes well this spring, he should be in consideration for this year’s Future Games team. Ranked 3rd in the state and 192nd nationally, Hicks has a frame that oozes projection with a quick, compact arm stroke into a three-quarter slot. He hides the ball well and has the arm speed that allows his fastball to get on hitters quickly. Some of his heaters run arm-side more than others, and the ones that do give right-handed hitters issues. The fastball has been up to 88.8 MPH on Trackman, and we saw that velocity upheld in-game during the fall tournament circuit. Hicks’ low-80s slider is a swing-and-miss weapon with late movement, and the two pitches are a strong foundation. This past summer Hicks paced all freshman arms with 95 strikeouts (24th among all pitchers) in 65.1 innings pitched. The 95 strikeouts from a freshman pitcher was the most since Blaine Harpenau’s 101 total in the 2017-2018 season. Overall, Hicks made 11 starts for the Eagles and went 6-2 with a 1.39 ERA and a .177 batting average allowed. Big things are ahead for this young arm. More on Brady ⤵️

Brock Rodden is my #19 Mariners prospect. A switch hitter, Rodden does it differently from each side. On the left side, Rodden has solid swing decisions and gets the ball in the air to the pull side, which is great considering his Max EV from the left side this year is a paltry 107.4 MPH. He’s going to whiff, but his consistent ability to elevate from this side of the plate gives him some intrigue. From the right side, Rodden becomes a completely different hitter. His chase rate jumps 9% and his ability to elevate vanishes. Instead, he consistently makes more contact both in and out of the zone. This is definitely his weaker side as there’s no threat other than potentially an annoying at-bat. He strikes out considerably less from this side, but he also walks significantly less. Lastly, his defensive versatility will be of great value in Seattle, especially for a team with bad defense almost everywhere. He’ll probably suit up everywhere other than first base and catcher. Rodden won the 2024 MiLB Utility Gold Glove award. Welcome to Seattle, Brock Rodden!

Extended look @ Isaac Lyon (‘25, elig.) of Grand Canyon Baseball from last week’s scrimmage vs. CSUN where he pitched two shutout innings. 6-3/200 frame. Some deception to the operation where he works to a side-arm slot. Up to 92 w/ the FB in this outing where he creates quality sink/run on the offering which gets him off barrels. Adds a bit of depth/fade on his CH in the low 80s and also flashes a low-mid 80s SL that shows more standard shape w/ flashes of sweep. PG College Baseball

’25 Texas A&M Baseball signee Matthew Boughton (Matthew Boughton) continues to make jumps in his game. Future top round guy in the MLB Draft? 6-1, 175-pound SS out of CCA Athletics (TX) put all the tools on display this year in front of ✭Five Tool Texas✭ and at national events. Comes in at No. 10 on the 2025 Five Tool Baseball Texas 55. Full rankings list here » As Dustin McComas put: “Boughton is an impressive athlete with a decorated background in track and the bounce to easily dunk basketballs. His power is improving as he adds strength, and he rotates well from the right side. It’s difficult for shortstops identified so early on in their careers as being special to live up to the hype and continue improving, but Boughton has done exactly that.” Plays for Stix Baseball.
