Some of the replies on here are wild... I feel like I need to start driving around with the 360 camera on the roof in order to give more context. I would have thought 2 video angles would have been good enough, but apparently I am an idiot for disengaging and our almight FSD was making the appropriate decision, how foolish of me. 🙄 Just to package it all up in one reply, the road I was turning on has TWO lanes - FSD was trying to turn into the right lane. I saw the white car moving from the left lane into the right lane and FSD was still trying to turn into that lane. Had I not stopped that white car would have rear ended me 10000%. Photos to hopefully clear things up. ALSO JUST TO BE CRYSTAL CLEAR - I think FSD is incredible, there's nothing like it in North America. I praise it daily - but it is NOT perfect and sharing it's current limitations and issues is important. It helps keep people safe and hopefully lets @Tesla_AI see things that need to be worked on.

This isn't FSD problem, it's your problem. FSD will go if it's lane is available, not when the road is free. and I can see that in both of your disengagement!

This is most certainly an FSD problem... the lane wasn't available, there's a car merging into it. I saw that as a human, and had there been an accident I would have been at fault.

Mine has done this before almost in the exact same situation and right before i was about to press the brake it stopped and it was just creeping. Not sure if this was a similar situation or not lol

It may have stopped, but the 'tentacle' looked it like wanted to go onto the road... plus it just felt very uncomfortable. There's zero reason for the car to creep that agressively when there's traffic coming in the lane.

I see your lack of understanding what FSD (Supervised) will and won't do is main issue. Like in the real world, one's first time driving a car doesn't determine whether the car is safe or not.

My lack of understanding? I would argue I have used FSD more than 90% of people. I make content related to FSD and care a lot about the software. Tracking disengagements like this is important, it allows people to understand the real world safety of the car while using FSD.

That's nuts, I'm calling BS. Never had this one time since the v13 update. Never touch the wheel once, drive for hours in California. The car drives better then me I completely trust the system. Only time I disengage is because I change my mind & want to go a different way

Calling BS? Do you think this is an elaborate multi-cam AI fake video or something? FSD was moving forward into a lane that a car was driving in (70+KM/H).

That was clearly a Safety Related Disengagement -- the car on the left was changing lanes at the exact time the FSD Path Planner was moving your car into that lane. You would probably have gotten rear-ended. See the screen shot below.

I just dont understand why the car wouldn't back-off on its decision. I was saying "I wouldn't go" for more than enough time, the vehicle which is capable of making decisions MUCH faster than me should have saw that car and stopped.

FSD V14.1.7 | Near Accident This is without a doubt the closest I have come to getting into an accident in a long time. I think had I not taken over and slammed on the brakes we would not have slowed down in time. You can see that FSD does an incredible job reacting to the car (even before I noticed it) and was slowing down, but it was not slowing down enough to stop in time. As soon as I saw the car swerving to the right I worried she was going to bounce back into my lane so that is when I decided to go full on the brakes to stop the car. You can see prior to me taking over we were full regen braking (which is FSD reacting well) but it wasn't using any real brakes at all, and ABS was not active until I took over. Let me know what you all think in the comments. I still think FSD is incredible - the reality is if you watch the video the car saw and reacted to the situation before I did, it just didn't brake as agressively as it needed to in this situation. FSD + an attentive driver is without a doubt in my mind still safer than a normal human driver who is not using FSD.

Why am I not even surprised by this, I’m afraid if more and teachers have this epiphany then we won’t have any left to teach our kids. This woman used to be a teacher with a master’s degree. I can’t imagine devoting that much time and money to a profession only to find out I could make more just working a normal job. I think more and more that higher education is possibly turning into a scam. Growing up I was always told to focus on school, get an education and I will soar. Not too long after that I found out that wasn’t the case. I don’t even use my degree at all, I got it because I was told by my parents I had to. I worked two jobs while in school so I could graduate without debt, only to put it on the wall and forget about it. I later on went the family business route anyways as I always planned on doing. I feel I was pressured and sold a pipe dream that a degree would be the answer to anything financial for me, that it would unlock possibilities. For me, it closed many doors, many employers saw me as being overqualified. The turning point for me was when I used to go to a hotel with co-workers after work and I got to know my server. Turned out he had a degree in a similar field to mine and he was waiting on tables and in massive student debt because of it. I can tell the college dream turned into a nightmare for him. To spend thousands and not be able to use it to recoup my money would make me feel like the biggest fool around. I felt like if anyone came by to sell me magic beans, I would have a beanstalk in my yard. While not using my degree worked for me, there are so many more others that can’t say the same.
