So technically the catcher’s interference on Cap was because he “stepped in front of the plate” which is insanely stupid. The batter is in the on deck circle by the time Bryce slides home. These rules don’t account for normal human reaction.

The batter stepping out has nothing to do with it…it’s a safety rule, and it’s a pitched ball and the catcher prevented it from cross home plate.

It’s not stupid. A pitch was thrown. The catcher can’t leave the catchers box until he has the ball. It’s a rule of the game and has been for ages.

The ball was a live pitched ball. Catcher can't just jump in front of home plate like that before he has the ball. Clear catcher's balk.

This is what I hate about the whole thing. No catcher in that scenario is just gonna stay 2 feet behind the plate. Especially with the batter running away.

They seriously need to look into changing this rule.

Profilbild von ThePhilliesPod

All the pitcher needs to do is step off the mound and throw home. He didn’t, so it’s a pitch, and a pitch needs to cross a line or it’s a balk. Pretty simple actually.

No it’s a VERY basic rule. The ball has to cross the plane of the plate before you catch it, and you’re not allowed to step on or beyond the plate until that point. Why? Because catchers interference doesn’t care what else is happening. When an O lineman is a millimeter offside before a 70 yard touchdown, it’s still a flag.

How is it stupid? The catcher can’t just jump in front of the plate to catch the ball. How can someone hit if that happens?

If the batter steps out the catcher should be awarded the opportunity to make a tag play, all the while letting the runner have a lane. All of which happened in this play. This rule is fucking dumb, or the umpire made a bad interference call

It’s a pitch. You can’t step in front of the plate and catch the ball lol This is little league stuff

Technically this is a PITCH not a throw home. So you cannot step into the batters box during a pitch. Pretty simple

You have to be one of the dumbest mfs ever. You gotta give the batter a chance to swing the bat. Who cares if he jumped out of the box. You paid for Twitter so you could say stupid shit like this?

Oh no I totally get it. I think it’s a dumb ruling there. One foot in front of the plate. I’m lot certain how he could have received the throw and get a proper tag on otherwise. Perhaps he left his designated position before the pitch? Like an intentional walk…

Profilbild von Michael Buck

…catcher can stand but he has to remain in his area until after the pitch it delivered.

What should the catcher have done?

Profilbild von LeRoy Gorham

The pitcher messed up. As soon as the runner broke for home he has to step off the rubber before throwing home. Then it’s not a pitch and the catcher can do what he wants.

Imagine thinking you’re cooking with the tweet. Doesn’t matter where batter ended up, catcher can’t be where he was. Hope that helps moron

Profilbild von Deanna Lane

What the batter does is irrelevant. It's a safety rule. The batter can swing at the pitch and kill the catcher. IF THE PITCHER STEPS OFF THE RUBBER and then throws home, then the catcher can move forward.

Profilbild von Augustus Greene grass

He has to avoid blocking the plate until he has the ball, but he could not step forward because there is an active batter. We are finding the dumbest parts of the rulebook this year, Steve.

Also, why the fuck was Fitts throwing from the windup? Idgaf if there's guys on 2nd and 3rd, you invite the opportunity for steals at home when you do that. Unreal

You can’t catch a pitched ball in front of the plate. It’s not a hard concept. If he stepped off then threw it then it’s not an issue

Profilbild von Joe Greiner

It’s not a dumb rule at all if you consider it incentivizes a catcher NOT to step into the swinging lane of the hitter. The batter here got out of the way, but could have taken a hack at the ball if it was pitched (I haven’t seen if this was a pitch). It’s intended for safety

Profilbild von Cooper DarJean
Cooper DarJeanvor 1 Jahr

Marsh was an idiot for vacating the box here. If he doesn’t, Narvaez can’t try to make the play he tried to make (which was just a natural reaction) because Marsh still has the right to swing at the pitch technically speaking. The play doesn’t stop because of a steal attempt.

The rule is intended to hinder normal reaction, if the hitters stays in the box and intentionally swings to miss, who wins? GMAB, if the catcher does this to my team I’d steal and swing/miss every time, just sayin’. And if intent is to bunt just run and catch it 1st? WTAF⚾️🤡’s

Profilbild von Ryan

Ok wait, did the pitcher step off? Because that would be very relevant. If he steps off then that’s a horrible call. If he pitches it as the throw then yes that makes sense as a balk
