The Calgary Police Service will no longer be sharing the last names of individuals who are reported missing or sharing details of whether any of those individuals are tragically located deceased as a standard practice moving forward. The long-lasting impact of having a full name published on social media can last forever & to ensure the well-being of those located safe, we will only be issuing social media posts with first names, descriptors & photos. Sadly, not all missing persons return to their families & loved ones. To ensure grieving families & friends can share the information on their own terms, moving forward all missing persons updates will only include whether they were located. Many times, missing people are located due to a social media post & we thank you for your continued assistance in our investigations. Should there be an investigative benefit to the additional sharing of details, exceptions may be made. This adjustment to how we share information has been done so carefully & out of compassion & respect for those we serve.
