One thing that I've learned as a heart patient is that depression and anxiety can be insanely, and I mean insanely exacerbated.. I've now lost 40 lbs. and it's simply because I often can't eat. I'm just trying to get better and deal with certain traumas in my life with therapy..

Last night I had the opportunity along with other pastors, to pray for Donald J. Trump as well as lead the Lord’s Prayer. I’m grateful for a leader who welcomes prayer and the support of faith leaders. 1 Timothy 2 tells us to pray for our leaders — and I would also be honored to do the same if invited by Kamala Harris.

“Depression doesn’t mean you’re broken. It literally means you had to push your feelings down.” Gabor Maté explained it powerfully on Theo Von’s podcast. As a child, if your anger, grief, or fear wasn’t allowed or validated by your parents, you learned to suppress it to stay connected to them. Decades later, that suppressed emotion shows up as depression. He’s taken antidepressants himself and says they can help short-term, but they don’t fix the underlying wound. Large-scale studies on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) show a clear dose-response relationship: the more childhood emotional suppression or invalidation, the higher the risk of adult depression. Preventing ACEs could reduce adult depression cases by up to 44–78%, according to CDC-linked research. Real healing often begins when we stop managing symptoms and start addressing the emotions we were never allowed to feel. Apparently dads get postnatal depression now. And this brave chap is raising awareness of it via a Times article. I’m not saying becoming a father isn’t a big adjustment for men. Of course they should get help if that leads to depression. But it’s women whose bodies are, literally, changed by conception, pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding. Not just by the physical changes and challenges, but by the hormonal changes that go with them. And this feels like just another example of women not being able to have anything for themselves - including the very thing only their bodies can do. Not every aspect of female experience needs a male equivalent.

I tell people who are unhappy with their lives, who lost a boyfriend or a girlfriend, who are in a depression, I say (that) one of the best ways to deal with that is to wake up in the morning and instead of saying, 'What can I do to make myself happy? What can I do to make myself more loved? What can I do to get my boyfriend back?' This is the part of being a doctor I hate most. A patient looks at you and begs you to remove the tumor, or just help them somehow… and you already know there’s nothing left you can safely do to improve their quality of life or survival. Their cancer is just too aggressive. In this case, it had completely taken over the skull, face, and even the brain. No miracle surgery. No cure. No words that make it better. Just watching the hope leave someone’s face while you try to offer honesty, compassion, and whatever dignity you still can. These conversations stay with doctors forever. They are infinitely harder for the patient and their family. I’m so sorry. #braincancer #cancerawareness #neurosurgeon #braintumor #medicaleducation

Pavel Durov on why he hasn't had depression in 20 years: "I normally never have depression. I don't remember having depression in the last 20 years, at least maybe when I was a teenager." Pavel's approach to difficult emotions is completely counterintuitive. As he puts it: "I'm a human being like everybody else. I do get to experience emotions and some of them are not very pleasant. But I believe that it's the responsibility of every one of us to cope with these emotions and to learn to work through them." On what creates depression: "Self-discipline is particularly important because without it, how can you overcome this seemingly endless loop of negativity or despair that ultimately leads to depression for some people?" His method: "One of the reasons I don't have depression is I start doing things. I identify the problem, I can see a solution, and I start executing the strategy. If you are stuck in this loop of being worried about something, nothing's ever going to change." The mistake people make: "People often make this mistake thinking 'Oh, I should just have some rest and then regain energy.' This is not how it works. You gain energy by doing something. So you start doing something, then it happens. You feel motivated, you feel inspired, and then ultimately you do something else a little bit more." He continues: "The whole point is to do first and then feel, not feel and then do. Going to the gym is a good example. There are many days when you don't want to start working out. But you have to overcome this initial reluctance and then you get to a point that you enjoy it and you think 'Oh my god, it was such a good idea to come to gym today.'" Action creates energy, not the other way around.

10 years ago around this Day I didn’t want to live anymore , I retired from Professional Football through Depression,anxiety and Addiction to painkillers (tramadol) it’s my biggest regret I didn’t speak up sooner or tell the proper truth until 2022,don’t make the same mistake !!! Be brave speak up and ask for help ,Addiction is one of the hardest cycles to beat but you can do it !!! Have a great weekend love me and the boys 🐕🐕❤️ walkingsbrilliant WellnessOnside

10 years ago around this Day I didn’t want to live anymore , I retired from Professional Football through Depression,anxiety and Addiction to painkillers (tramadol) it’s my biggest regret I didn’t speak up sooner or tell the proper truth until 2022,don’t make the same mistake !!! ⏰ I normally feed the dogs at 6.30am but couldn’t get out of bed until 9.30 today because of depression. 🙏 I could easily have got someone to cover and do it for me but wanted to force myself up. It was tough. 🐶 Anxiety too bad to deal with people today but the dogs and their happy tails helped immeasurably 🌴 Fresh air and doing something helps but as people with depression and anxiety know even a simple thing can seem monumentally hard. Feeding the dogs is the highlight of my day and I still struggled to get out and do it. Thinking of people who have to go to work, face hard social situations and can’t afford to not be in hard situations with their own anxiety / depression. 💤 I probably won’t get much more then this done today as I feel very rough but the dogs are fed and I feel like I achieved something even if I was moving like in quicksand
