I've been living this and it's hard to comprehend what this means for the world when everyone does it

Then why is every piece of enterprise software in an absolute SHITTY state at the moment?

Matthew Berman's profile picture

that's why I think enterprise companies may explore building their own

I feel your pain on Adobe just to read a PDF. Thanks for the heads up, going to make my own PDF reader.

The question is still why you would built software that others (agents) have already built. Every tool only needs to exist once. It only needs to be the most efficient form possible. Then it will always be cheaper than building your own.

Do people not value their time? The notion that you are just going to use Claude to create all the software you need is absurd. If I need a spreadsheet and don't want to pay for Excel I can use Google Sheets or Numbers. Or a myriad of free open source apps that pre-date AI.

It takes almost no time to build software today and it’s only going to get faster

Good enough for throw away projects if you don't know what the hell you are doing. Cheap enough like Anthropic, 80 B in expenses 16B in revenue, lets wait. Easy enough, yes, if you want to run it locally with huge holes, performance issues and bad architecture, it was cheap.

i stopped trusting a demo when a build still sent people back to me all week. now i count how many times they come back before i call it done

Brillian video Matthew, when I saw your video on YT, I was thinking about how Anthrophic has no banned developers from remaking video games, do you think software companies will get their way too?

Matthew Berman's profile picture
Matthew Berman4 days ago

yeah that's interesting. it would be ridiculous to ban users from building software but maybe "clone X" prompt will be banned?

Yeah man, tell me about it. I literally got Claude to remake Lemmings for my classroom, where kids can play in teams of two or three against the computer. And get this, the whole thing was built overnight in the cloud while I was asleep. Absolutely wild.

Yeah you can vibe it up and it’s all customizable. Will be fascinating to see real time data and updates in every day life

Yes, AAA games will be virtually free and open source within five years (and at a huge scale).

all that is left for normies to do this themselves is: - tps (opus 5.5 at 1,000 tps) - cost (deepseek 4.1 flash levels of cost) I would say "this will take a few years", but I have always been wrong, it always comes much sooner 😂

Matthew Berman's profile picture
Matthew Berman4 days ago

agreed. speed and cost. 1000 tps would mean building at the speed of ideation.

Dude you’re giving normies too much, credit… I agree with you a lot of ppl will built their own software but not for a while, most current adults are only capable of competently operating an iPhone app

Matthew Berman's profile picture

I think it’ll come sooner than we think. Plus, when operating systems build in customization of the OS deep into the UI, it’ll be seamless. Omwrchy I think is doing this

Hey everyone, your computer is no longer a drooling incompetent toddler, that you had to dress, feed and do everything for…it’s growing up, beginning to understand what you’re saying to it… Just know it’s just figuring out how to crawl, but be prepared when it starts to walk…and good luck when it learns how to run 😵‍💫

Its been solved for months. Once you leave Windows or OSX and just start AIing directly from the shell its over. There is like a 90% chance someone already solved your issue/need on giuhub.

You cannot fully clone software with AI because a program is more than just its visible interface and source code. While AI can quickly replicate surface-level features and generate functionally similar code, it cannot copy the underlying business assets, proprietary data

Yes, but consumers and orgs will quickly realize that it's a waste of their time, attention and resources to maintain and update that same software. That said, I believe this is a healthy swing too far as it will tell us which software actually needs to continuously adapt (requiring SaaS) and which software is completely fine remaining mostly static (fine being self-owned).

Claiming that mandatory subscriptions are necessary to fund ongoing quality assurance was already an excuse before AI. Now that AI is so advanced that a single person can rebuild an entire software suite, continuing to justify monthly fees becomes an absurdity.

From experience, someone who can vibe with opus 5.5 at a very high level, with no SWE experience, can absolutely outperform a large number of SWE's at enterprises today.....This is the reality right now
