This is number 22 for me, and every one is different.” The skies were overcast for Dr Mason’s first total solar eclipse in the Philippines in 1988. Since then he has devoted many hours to studying weather patterns and microclimates ahead of each solar eclipse. He concluded that Burgos was the ideal base for the event for the highest probability of clear skies. “There’ll be a lot of beautiful twilight colours, a lot of lighting effects, maybe atmospheric effects that we’re seeing because the sun is low down in the sky,” he says. The prospect has lured eclipse chasers from across the world. 🔗
